Abstract: This paper identifies surface finishing (grinding) as a major engineering process in production industries and that emery cloth otherwise know as ";sand paper"; is used for this purpose. The grinding process is discussed in details. The materials and their sources requires for the production of the emery cloth are discussed and also the physical properties of the materials are considered. The paper discusses the manufacturing stages of the cloth. Three main stages were identified — sand preparation, backing paper preparation and the emery cloth production. Finally the require quality control processes were considered, a detailed cost analysis was carried out and conclusions were drawn. Keywords: Emery Cloth, materials production, cost [Global Jnl Engineering Res. Vol.1(1) 2002: 31-38]

TL;DR: In this article, the authors evaluated the nutrient compositions of Pleurotus ostreatus (Jacaum, ex. Fr. Kummer) grown using different agricultural waste: sawdust, sugarcane (Sacharum officinarum) peels, plantain leaves and corn cobs.
Abstract: The study evaluated the nutrient compositions of Pleurotus ostreatus (Jacaum, ex. Fr. Kummer) grown using different agricultural waste: sawdust, sugarcane (Sacharum officinarum) peels, plantain leaves and corn cobs. The proximate compositions of P. ostreatus fruit bodies varied significantly (P≤ 0.05). Matured fruit bodies of P. ostreatus harvested from sawdust and sugarcane peel substrates had significantly (P≤ 0.05) the highest content of moisture (15.20%) and ash (5.23%) respectively. The Corn cob substrates yielded P. ostreatus with significantly (P≤ 0.05) the highest amount of protein (9.38%) and lipids (8.5%); and lowest amount of carbohydrates (51.76%). Crude fibre was found more in the fruit bodies of P. ostreatus harvested from sugarcane peel substrates (8.23%) followed by corn cobs (7.28% ). The mineral content varied significantly (P≤ 0.05) from 0.43 - 0.90, 0.12 - 0.30, 9.20 - 14.6, 7.30 -13.0 and 1.5 - 2.7 mg/100g for iron, sodium, potassium, phosphorus and calcium respectively. P. ostreatus from sugarcane peels had significantly (P≤ 0.05) the highest mineral content except for calcium. Vitamin C content ranged from 1.3 mg/100g for corn hob to 1.8mg/100g for sawdust. The study revealed that sugarcane peel and corn hob in terms of the proximate and mineral composition are better substrate for the growth of P. ostreatus. It is therefore recommended that these agricultural wastes should be used in the cultivation of P. ostreatus. Besides producing nutritious mushrooms, this will help to reduce the huge agricultural wastes within our environment that sometimes when not properly managed caused serious environmental pollution.

TL;DR: A method is reported that considerably reduces the pre-attachment period, increases the percentage of attachment, reduces mortality, increases yield, and shortens the feeding duration.
Abstract: Studies on immunological and pheromonal methods to control lxodid ticks require efficient methods to colonize them. Since i t is not always possible to rear ticks on their natural hosts because of cost and convenience, it is often necessary to use small laboratory animals. While some species of ticks feed readily on a wide range of laboratory hosts, e.g. Rhipicephalus appeiidiculafus Neumann (Branagan, 1974), others such as Boophilus spp. have a very narrow host range (Bennet & Wharton, 1968). Attempts in this laboratory to use rabbits for the rearing of adults of A.variegaturn Fabricius resulted in low attachment rates and high mortalities, thus rendering the system inefficient. This paper reports a method that considerably reduces the pre-attachment period, increases the percentage of attachment, reduces mortality, increases yield, and shortens the feeding duration. The reasons for these improvements arc also discussed. Nine New Zealand white rabbits of both sexes, naive to ticks, aged between 4 and 6 months, and weighing between 3 and 4kg, were randomly divided into three groups. Three tick-rearing procedures were replicated on three rabbits in each group so that each method was carried out on six ears. Table 1 shows the various combinations of the

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the causal relationship between gang culture, criminality and corruption in Nigeria universities and found that there is a bi-directional causal relationship flowing between gang criminality and corrupt in the universities.
Abstract: This study contributes to the understanding of the causal relationship between gang culture, criminality and corruption in Nigeria universities where both criminality and corruption are very high complementary variables. Writers on gang culture in Nigeria universities have largely omitted the empirical evaluation of the causal relationship between gang criminality and corruption. This study adopts the time-series models of Granger (1969) to investigate and explain the causal relationship of the variables. Using five years data (2005-2009) from 37 Universities across 36 States of Nigeria and Abuja, the federal capital territory; the results suggest that there is existence of reciprocal relationship between university gang culture, criminality and corruption. The results suggest that there is a bi-directional causal relationship flowing between gang criminality and corruption in the universities.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors analyzed the impact of taxation on economic development in Nigeria as it concerns value-added tax (VAT), company income tax (CIT), and Petroleum Profit Tax (PPT).
Abstract: The paper analyzed the impact of taxation on economic development in Nigeria as it concerns value-added tax (VAT), Company Income Tax (CIT) and Petroleum Profit Tax (PPT). For the purpose of this study, the major source of data was a secondary source. Data were collected from the Central Bank of Nigeria Statistical Bulletin and Federal Inland Revenue Services. The data collected were analyzed with Ordinary Least Square Multiple Linear Regressions since there were more than two variables. The analysis revealed that all the independent variables (VAT, CIT and PPT) used in this study have a significant positive relationship on the dependent variable (GDP), which is used to measure economic development while value-added tax, company income tax, and petroleum profit tax were used to measure taxation. It was therefore recommended that the government should extend its database to capture all tax revenue by employing practically and technically oriented professionals. Results also imply it is recommended for the government to foster a favorable environment for young entrepreneurs to initiate and grow businesses that will lead to an increase in tax revenue for the government. It was also recommended that social science, which is the umbrella that covers management sciences, should be employed to manage businesses so as to ensure the survival of businesses and boast the nation’s revenue through tax, as it concerns training having an impact on resources utilization and allocation, thus promoting profit maximization.
