TL;DR: This paper explored what journalists understand by news routine as well as explore the link between such understanding and journalists identification, description, expansion and dissemination of social meaning in Nigeria, and concluded that such legitimization constitutes impediment to Nigeria's development by undermining journalists' capacity forcapacious construction and dissemination.
Abstract: The search for the best model for journalism practice has inspired debates right from the ancient European era through to the era of the Penny Press in the formative years of the United States to the present. This paper is designed to explore what journalists understand by news routine as well as to explore the link between such understanding and journalists’ identification, description, expansion and dissemination of social meaning in Nigeria. In conformity with the notion that the representativeness of a sample to the general population is of no significance in qualitative research, a theoretical sample of three Nigerian newspaper texts were interpreted in accordance with analytic procedures prescribed in Semiotics and Critical Discourse Analysis. When Focus Group data were triangulated with the representation made with the newspaper texts, the finding was that Nigerian journalists legitimize the arbitrary by embracing rigid ideologically-tainted news routines. Conclusion is that such legitimization constitutes impediment to Nigeria’s development by undermining journalists’ capacity forcapacious construction and dissemination of social meaning.

TL;DR: Adim et al. as discussed by the authors studied the crisis response strategies of Dana Air in ensuring its survival in the wake of a fatal crash involving one of its aircraft on Abuja to Lagos route while attempting to land at a local airport in Lagos, Nigeria on Sunday, 3rd June, 2012.
Abstract: There are numerous events that will pose challenges to an organization and needs to be resolved as soon as possible which ranges from those that threatens the organization’s existence, its reputation from adverse media reports and spurious social media, labour disputes and product safety misplacement. This paper discuses crises response strategies of Dana Air in ensuring its survival in the wake of a fatal crash involving one of its aircraft on Abuja to Lagos route while attempting to land at a local airport in Lagos, Nigeria on Sunday, 3rd June, 2012. This study was a descriptive research. It included surveys and fact- finding enquiries of different kinds. The secondary research methodology was largely adopted for this study. Data for the study was generated from desk review of secondary materials, books, online blogs and news reports. The findings showed that the families and relatives of the victims suffered emotional trauma from their bereavement and thus caused them harm, and the general public had to be convinced of the safety of the rest of the airline’s operations. Several airlines that suffered previous air crash and could not manage the crises effectively had to fold up. For this reason the airline’s communications and actions during the crisis following an accident is of high importance because it influences the way the airline is looked upon by stakeholders. Presenting information about the accident together with efforts to increase safety can be assumed to increase the company’s legitimacy and its survival after the crisis caused by the air crash. The paper recommended effective post crisis communication since the general public constitutes the potential customers of these passenger air travel firms, they have to regain their positive attitude towards the firms; by being reassured that the firms are taking corrective action to prevent the accidents from happening again or that the firms did not have responsibility for the events that led to the crisis. TL;DR: In this paper, a model based on the mass-transfer coefficient is also presented for the drying rate in the constant-rate period, which is compared with experimental data and good agreement is obtained if the mass transfer coefficient is taken to be 7.55 x 10 -9 kg/m 2 s Pa.
Abstract: Ceramic suspensions for tape casting are known to dry in two stages; the first stage is called the constant-rate period, and the second stage is the falling-rate period. During the constant-rate period, the drying rate of a material is constant. During the falling-rate period, the drying rate gradually decreases as the moisture content of the material falls. A mass-transfer coefficient is estimated for the constant–rate period of drying of water-based alumina suspensions for tape casting. A model based on the mass-transfer coefficient is also presented for the drying rate in the constant-rate period. The model is compared with experimental data and good agreement is obtained if the mass-transfer coefficient is taken to be 7.55 x 10 -9 kg/m 2 s Pa. JMDMES Vol.2(1) 2003: 83-88

TL;DR: In this article, a study targeted at modeling exchange rate and Nigerian deposit banks money market dynamics using trivariate form of multivariate GARCH model was conducted, which revealed the presence of two directional volatility spillovers between the two sets of variables.
Abstract: The risks associated with exchange rate and money market indicators have drawn the attentions of econometricians, researchers, statisticians, and even investors in deposit money banks in Nigeria. The study targeted at modeling exchange rate and Nigerian deposit banks money market dynamics using trivariate form of multivariate GARCH model. Data for the period spanning from 1991 to 2017 on exchange rate (Naira/Dollar) and money market indicators (Maximum and prime lending rate) were sourced for from the central bank of Nigeria (CBN) online statistical database. The study specifically investigated; the dynamics of the variance and covariance of volatility returns between exchange rate and money market indicators in Nigeria were examine whether there exist a linkage in terms of returns and volatility transmission between exchange rate and money market indicators in Nigeria and compared the difference in Multivariate BEKK GARCH considering restrictive indefinite under the assumption of normality and that of student’s –t error distribution. Preliminary time series checks were done on the data and the results revealed the present of volatility clustering. Results reveal the estimate of the maximum lag for exchange rate and money market indicators were 4 respectively. Also, the results confirmed that there were two co-integrating equations in the relationship between the returns on exchange rate and money market indicators. The results of the diagonal MGARCH –BEKK estimation confirmed that diagonal MGARCH –BEKK in students’-t was the best fitted and an appropriate model for modeling exchange rate and Nigerian deposit money market dynamics using trivariate form of multivariate GARCH model. Also, the study confirmed presence of two directional volatility spillovers between the two sets of variables.
