Abstract: The aim of this research work is to unveil the phytoconstituents of some commonly consumed leafy vegetables which are Talinum triangulare (water leaf), Telfairia occidentalis (fluted pumpkin) and Occimum gratissimum (scent leaf). Freshly harvested vegetables were separately processed into fine powder. 15 g, each of the vegetable powder samples was extracted with methanol. Phytochemical and GC-MS analysis was carried out on the samples using standard procedures. The analysis showed that methanolic leaf extract of fluted pumpkin contains tannins, saponins, phenolics, proteins, anthraquinone and alkaloids with the presence of tannins and saponins being more abundant. However, enquiry into the phytoconstituents of Talinum triangulare leaf indicated that all phytochemicals investigated were reportedly present with saponins and alkaloids being more abundant. For O. gratissimum leaf, tannins, saponins, flavonoids, steroids, phenolics, proteins, anthraquinone and alkaloids were reportedly present. However, like T. occidentalis, tannins and saponins were more abundant. GC-MS analysis carried out on the methanolic leaf extract of T. occidentalis revealed that nine compounds were present. The five most abundant of the nine compounds include n-Hexanoic acid (35.23%), 9, 12, 15-octadecatrienal (12.4%), imidazolidinedione-5-methyl (10.96%), L-Proline, 5-oxo-, methyl ester (9.76%) and 3- [Prop-2-enoyloxy] tetradecane (8.96%). Meanwhile, O. gratissimum showed the presence of only phenol-2-methyl-5-(1-methylethyl) (90.73%) as the major constituent, while eight (8) compounds were found present in the methanolic leaf extract of T. triangulare (water leaf) and the five more abundant of the eight include pentanoic acid (28.28%), DL-proline,5-oxo-methyl-buthylester (24.89%), 3 pyridinecarboxyaldehyde, O-cetyloxine (E) (21%), Z-dodecanol (12.68%) and 4-pyridinol (4.61%). Findings from this research further support the claim on vegetables as repositories of nutraceuticals.

Abstract: Light influences important physiological and morphological responses in fungi, hence they can sense near UV, blue, green, red and far-red lights using up to eleven (11) photoreceptors and signaling cascades to control a larger proportion of the genomes and adapt to environmental factors. Though light is an environmental signal regulating myriad of biological processes, fungi do not utilize it as a source of energy for synthesis of food but for information and other developmental processes. Two genes WC-1 and WC-2 have been identified to function as photoreceptor for blue light proteins or orthologs and transcription factor for other light induced phenomenon. Additionally, Review Article Nmom et al.; AJOB, 11(3): 25-34, 2021; Article no.AJOB.66196 26 conserved WCC photoreceptor orthologs (FaWC1 and FaWC2) may also perform divergent roles in some fungal species such as light signals to regulate UV resistance, secondary metabolism and sexual reproduction as well as for virulent expression. Response to white light irradiation has also elicited different morphological and physiological changes in various species of fungi such as asexual reproduction and induction or inhibition of several developmental processes. Mushrooms also requires light for developmental processes such as the asexual stage for completion of its life cycle whereas it is unnecessary at the vegetative stage. This review provides some recent crucial impact of light irradiation on the developmental processes of fungi such as sporogenesis, germination/conidiation, reproductive development, pathogenesis, mycotoxin and mushroom development even though they are generally known to be achlorophyllous and non-photosynthetic. Thus, identifying conditions of light regime that will favour fungal development with reduced mycotoxin production will be beneficial to animals and human health. Additionally, developing new techniques to control fungal species may lead to the development of faster and more effective food-processing methods.

Abstract: Given the rising wave of violentacts across the world, this paper is designed to investigate the improbable but emerging trend which seems to suggest that violent behavior now appears to be an incentive when dating and even marriage decisions are made. The investigation is carried out with a pool of data made up of multiple variants. After displaying the data in a textbox, subjective valuing was usedto attribute certain phenomena to segments of the data. After affirming that females consider violent traits in males as incentives in their male-partner preferences, data representation failed to establish a decisive link between fierce delinquent acts and sexual frustration.
