TL;DR: In this paper, Anderson, D. D., Papick, I. J., and Fontana, M., Loper, K. A. (2001a) extended the notion of star operation and generalized Kang's notion of a star Nagata r...
Abstract: In 1994, Matsuda and Okabe introduced the notion of semistar operation. This concept extends the classical concept of star operation (cf. for instance, Gilmer's book (Gilmer, R. (1972). Multiplicative Ideal Theory. New York: Marcel Dekker) and, hence, the related classical theory of ideal systems based on the works by W. Krull, E. Noether, H. Prufer and P. Lorenzen from 1930's. Fontana and Loper investigated properties of the Kronecker function rings which arise from arbitrary semistar operations on an integral domain D (Fontana M., Loper K. A. (2001a). Kronecker function rings: a general approach. In Anderson, D. D., Papick, I. J., eds. Ideal Theoretic Methods in Commutative Algebra. Lecture Notes Pure Appl. Math. 220, Marcel Dekker, pp. 189–205 and Fontana, M., Loper, K. A. (2001b). A Krull-type theorem for the semistar integral closure of an integral domain. ASJE Theme Issue “Commutative Algebra” 26:89–95). In this paper we extend that study and also generalize Kang's notion of a star Nagata r...

TL;DR: This paper studies pointwise and uniform convergence, as well as the order of approximation, for a family of linear positive neural network operators activated by certain sigmoidal functions, and shows that for C(1)-functions, the orders can be generalized to handle multivariate functions as well.

TL;DR: The results suggest that gain peaking is a generally applicable tool for increasing detector bandwidth in practical photonics systems without requiring the difficult process of lowering detector capacitance.
Abstract: Germanium-on-silicon photodetectors have been heavily investigated in recent years as a key component of CMOS-compatible integrated photonics platforms. It has previously been shown that detector bandwidths could theoretically be greatly increased with the incorporation of a carefully chosen inductor and capacitor in the photodetector circuit. Here, we show the experimental results of such a circuit that doubles the detector 3dB bandwidth to 60 GHz. These results suggest that gain peaking is a generally applicable tool for increasing detector bandwidth in practical photonics systems without requiring the difficult process of lowering detector capacitance.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors analyzed and interpreted the available reflection multichannel and single-channel seismic profiles in the Ionian offshore and integrated them with other geological and geophysical data acquired in the last 40 years.
Abstract: [1] The Neogene tectonics of the central Mediterranean are related to the subduction and trench rollback of the Ionian basin under Eurasia, causing the opening of the Liguro-Provencal and Tyrrhenian back-arc basins and the formation of the Calabrian accretionary wedge. The Calabrian accretionary wedge is a partially submerged accretionary complex located in the Ionian offshore and laterally bounded by the Apulia and Malta escarpments. While the history of the back-arc extension process is fairly well defined, the structure and evolution of the wedge are still poorly known. We have analyzed and interpreted the available reflection multichannel and single-channel seismic profiles in the Ionian offshore and integrated them with other geological and geophysical data acquired in the last 40 years. Here we present unpublished seismic profiles to provide a new map of the tectonic structure of the Ionian offshore and to define the structure of the wedge and its evolution during the last 15 Myr. Our reconstruction points out that the Messinian salinity crisis represents an important break in the evolution of the wedge, as the basal decollement ramps up onto the Messinian salt deposits, producing a dramatic and fast forward propagation of the frontal thrust and resulting underplating of the underlying crustal Ionian sequence during progressive trench rollback. Our results provide new insight into the style of accretion in a weakly converging setting, which is typical for the Mediterranean region.

TL;DR: In this article, a CAWI questionnaire was administered to a sample of 1078 Italian consumers during the lockdown (March-April 2020) and respondents were asked to self-estimate the percentage of food their households wasted before and during lockdown and to explain their food management habits.
Abstract: Over half of the total amount of food wasted in Europe concerns household food waste which is mainly due to incorrect food management habits and behaviour. During the Covid-19 outbreak, food management and consumption habits changed dramatically due to the tough lockdown restrictions imposed by governments to reduce infection. This study investigated how these dramatic changes in the daily lives of consumers influenced the generation of food waste at household level. A CAWI questionnaire was administered to a sample of 1078 Italian consumers during the lockdown (March–April 2020). The respondents were asked to self-estimate the percentage of food their households wasted before and during the lockdown and to explain their food management habits. We focused the analysis on the differences between the food the respondents declared to have wasted before and during lockdown, which revealed that most households threw away less food during the Covid-19 lockdown compared to the pre-Covid situation. We referred to Seemingly Unrelated Regression models to evaluate the association between the food waste behaviour in the two periods considered in the study and the other factors observed. The results disclosed that young consumers and people who started implementing good food management practices (shopping list, meal planning etc.) more frequently considerably reduced the food they wasted during lockdown. Also, the logistical difficulties of grocery shopping experienced by consumers during lockdown made them manage their household food consumption more carefully, which led to a reduction in the amount of food wasted.
