TL;DR: In this article, the compatibility of cellulose microfibrils with polypropylene matrix, a silane-coupling agent and a modified polyethylene were used.
Abstract: Polymer composites with cellulose microfibrils are materials with unique properties compared to existing materials: high strength, formability, and geometrical complexity at very small scale, low density, and abrasivity, biomedical compatibility, and possibility of recycling. Polymer composites from polypropylene and two types of cellulose microfibrils were prepared and characterized. To enhance the compatibility of cellulose microfibrils with polypropylene matrix, a silane-coupling agent and a modified polypropylene were used. Depending on the applied method, composite materials with enhanced mechanical properties were obtained. Morphostructural properties of cellulose microfibrils and polymer composites with treated and untreated microfibrils were investigated using scanning electronic microscopy (SEM), FTIR spectroscopy, and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC).

TL;DR: It is shown that fast mobility of clusters larger than a single atom is essential to bring the theoretical results into agreement with the outcome of molecular beam epitaxy experiments.
Abstract: The diffusion of small palladium clusters on MgO(100) is theoretically investigated. It is found that small clusters can diffuse even faster than isolated adatoms by a variety of mechanisms (some of which are novel), such as dimer rotation, trimer walking, tetramer rolling, and sliding. The consequences of the diffusion of small clusters on the growth of Pd aggregates on MgO(100) are investigated, and it is shown that fast mobility of clusters larger than a single atom is essential to bring the theoretical results into agreement with the outcome of molecular beam epitaxy experiments.

TL;DR: Claims that the first domestic pigs in Romania possessed the same mtDNA signatures found in Neolithic pigs in west and central Anatolia are substantiated and a turnover in mitochondrial lineages found in domestic pigs is confirmed, possibly coincident with human migration into Anatolia and the Levant that occurred in later prehistory.
Abstract: Current evidence suggests that pigs were first domesticated in Eastern Anatolia during the ninth millennium cal BC before dispersing into Europe with Early Neolithic farmers from the beginning of the seventh millennium. Recent ancient DNA (aDNA) research also indicates the incorporation of European wild boar into domestic stock during the Neolithization process. In order to establish the timing of the arrival of domestic pigs into Europe, and to test hypotheses regarding the role European wild boar played in the domestication process, we combined a geometric morphometric analysis (allowing us to combine tooth size and shape) of 449 Romanian ancient teeth with aDNA analysis. Our results firstly substantiate claims that the first domestic pigs in Romania possessed the same mtDNA signatures found in Neolithic pigs in west and central Anatolia. Second, we identified a significant proportion of individuals with large molars whose tooth shape matched that of archaeological (likely) domestic pigs. These large ‘domestic shape’ specimens were present from the outset of the Romanian Neolithic (6100–5500 cal BC) through to later prehistory, suggesting a long history of admixture between introduced domestic pigs and local wild boar. Finally, we confirmed a turnover in mitochondrial lineages found in domestic pigs, possibly coincident with human migration into Anatolia and the Levant that occurred in later prehistory.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors consider a parametric nonlinear nonhomogeneous elliptic equation driven by the sum of two differential operators having different structure and show that the problem has multiple solutions in the case of high perturbations.
Abstract: We consider a parametric nonlinear nonhomogeneous elliptic equation, driven by the sum of two differential operators having different structure. The associated energy functional has unbalanced growth and we do not impose any global growth conditions to the reaction term, whose behavior is prescribed only near the origin. Using truncation and comparison techniques and Morse theory, we show that the problem has multiple solutions in the case of high perturbations. We also show that if a symmetry condition is imposed to the reaction term, then we can generate a sequence of distinct nodal solutions with smaller and smaller energies.
