TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present a new observational campaign, Dwarf, aimed at detecting circumbinary extrasolar planets using the timing of the minima of low-mass eclipsing binaries.
Abstract: We present a new observational campaign, Dwarf, aimed at
detection of circumbinary extrasolar planets using the timing
of the minima of low-mass eclipsing binaries. The observations
will be performed within an extensive network of relatively
small to medium-size telescopes with apertures of similar to
20-200 cm. The starting sample of the objects to be monitored
contains (i) low-mass eclipsing binaries with M and K
components, (ii) short-period binaries with a sdB or sdO
component, and (iii) post-common-envelope systems containing a
WD, which enable to determine minima with high precision. Since
the amplitude of the timing signal increases with the orbital
period of an invisible third component, the timescale of the
project is long, at least 5-10 years. The paper gives simple
formulas to estimate the suitability of individual eclipsing
binaries for the circumbinary planet detection. Intrinsic
variability of the binaries (photospheric spots, flares,
pulsation etc.) limiting the accuracy of the minima timing is
also discussed. The manuscript also describes the best
observing strategy and methods to detect cyclic timing
variability in the minima times indicating the presence of
circumbinary planets. First test observations of the selected
targets are presented ((c) 2012 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co.

TL;DR: The findings have shown the protective action of oleic acid against palmitic acid on beta cell lipotoxicity through promotion of triglyceride accumulation and insulin secretion and regulation of some effector molecules involved in oxidative stress, endoplasmic reticulum stress, inflammation and apoptosis.
Abstract: In this study, we aimed to identify the mechanisms underlying the different effects of palmitic acid and oleic acid on human pancreatic beta cell function. To address this problem, the oxidative stress, endoplasmic reticulum stress, inflammation, apoptosis and their mediator molecules have been investigated in the insulin releasing beta cells exposed to palmitic and/or oleic acid. Herein, we have demonstrated that in cultured 1.1B4 beta cells oleic acid promotes neutral lipid accumulation and insulin secretion, whereas palmitic acid is poorly incorporated into triglyceride and it does not stimulate insulin secretion from human pancreatic islets at physiologically glucose concentrations. In addition, palmitic acid caused: (1) oxidative stress through a mechanism involving increases in ROS production and MMP-2 protein expression/gelatinolytic activity associated with down-regulation of SOD2 protein; (2) endoplasmic reticulum stress by up-regulation of chaperone BiP protein and unfolded protein response (UPR) transcription factors (eIF2α, ATF6, XBP1u proteins) and by PTP-1B down-regulation in both mRNA and protein levels; (3) inflammation through enhanced synthesis of proinflammatory cytokines (IL6, IL8 proteins); and (4) apoptosis by enforced proteic expression of CHOP multifunctional transcription factor. Oleic acid alone had opposite effects due to its different capacity of controlling these metabolic pathways, in particular by reduction of the ROS levels and MMP-2 activity, down-regulation of BiP, eIF2α, ATF6, XBP1u, CHOP, IL6, IL8 and by SOD2 and PTP-1B overexpression. The supplementation of saturated palmitic acid with the monounsaturated oleic acid reversed the negative effects of palmitic acid alone regulating insulin secretion from pancreatic beta cells through ROS, MMP-2, ATF6, XBP1u, IL8 reduction and SOD2, PTP-1B activation. Our findings have shown the protective action of oleic acid against palmitic acid on beta cell lipotoxicity through promotion of triglyceride accumulation and insulin secretion and regulation of some effector molecules involved in oxidative stress, endoplasmic reticulum stress, inflammation and apoptosis.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors identify and analyze consumer resistance in order to understand this concept in the area of resistant behavior and to show its importance in innovation process and its forms and effects on the behavior of consumers and market.
Abstract: The purpose of this work is to identify and analyze consumer resistance in order to understand this concept in the area of resistant behavior. The paper converges on studying the resistance to innovation from a theoretical perspective and to show it importance in innovation process. The paper concludes bydescribing the complexity of resistance to innovation, its forms and effects on the behavior of consumers and market. Although most authors focus their research on positive adoption decisions, this paper instead focus on developing insight into the relatively underdeveloped area of resistant behavior literature by presenting key concepts of resistance to innovation.

TL;DR: This work collected published studies involving DFT calculations for the OER to understand why the progress made so far, for lowering the overpotential of the reaction, is relatively small, and proposed a way to overcome these computational challenges, which can be applied to simulations corresponding to doped semiconductors in general.
Abstract: Multiple strategies to overcome the intrinsic limitations of the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) have been proposed by numerous research groups. Despite the substantial efforts, the driving force required for water oxidation is largely making the reaction inefficient. In the present work, we collected published studies involving DFT calculations for the OER, with the purpose to understand why the progress made so far, for lowering the overpotential of the reaction, is relatively small. The data revealed that the universal scaling relationship between HO* and HOO* intermediates is still present and robust, despite the variety in methods and structures used for calculating the binding energies of the intermediates. On the other hand, the data did not show a clear trend line regarding the O* binding. Our analysis suggested that trends in doped semiconducting oxides behave very differently from those in other oxides. This points towards a computational challenge in describing doped oxides in a realistic manner. We propose a way to overcome these computational challenges, which can be applied to simulations corresponding to doped semiconductors in general.
