Abstract: Indigenous Peoples and local communities (IPLC) are affected by global environmental change because they directly rely on their immediate environment for meeting basic livelihood needs. Therefore, safeguarding and restoring ecosystem resilience is critical to support their well‐being. Based on examples from the literature, we illustrate how IPLC participate in restoration activities maintaining traditional practices, restoring land degraded by outsiders, and joining outside groups seeking to restore ecosystems. Our review also provides examples of how Indigenous and Local Knowledge can be incorporated in the planning, execution, and monitoring of restoration activities. However, not all restoration initiatives engaging IPLC are beneficial or successful, and the factors that lead to success are not fully known. While local involvement in restoration projects is often mentioned as an element of success, this is primarily associated to projects that actively involve IPLC in codesigning restoration activities affecting their territories, ensure both short‐term direct benefits to IPLC and long‐term support of the maintenance of restored areas, and recognize IPLC local traditions and customary institutions. Based on these examples, we argue that IPLC should be a more important focus in any post‐2020 CBD agenda on restoration.

Abstract: Fish introductions are considered one of the most widespread anthropogenic threats to aquatic ecosystems. Their negative impact on native amphibian communities has received increasing attention in recent years. We investigated the relationship between the introduced fish, emergent vegetation cover and native amphibians in man-made ponds generated by regulation and dam building along the Târnava Mare Valley (Romania) during the last 40 years. We inventoried amphibians and fish inhabiting 85 permanent ponds and estimated habitat complexity focusing on emergent vegetation cover. Four amphibian species were found to be negatively associated with the presence of predatory fish. Species richness of ponds without fish and ponds without predatory fish did not differ significantly, whereas ponds containing only predatory fish had significantly lower amphibian richness. A significant positive relationship was found between the emergent vegetation cover and pond occupancy of six amphibian species and amphibian species richness. As a management recommendation, we suggest the restriction of fish introductions to non predatory fish and the maintenance of high emergent vegetation cover in the ponds.

Abstract: Hydrogen can be produced on a large scale through economically favorable raw materials and processes. Utilization of water as an exhaustible supply of hydrogen is well known. This is very much an area open to research, so that traditional methods can be considered, as well as non-traditional approaches. This paper examines the present status and looks at different approaches for technological advances. The paper reports on some of the new developments in the progress of the recent directions of world hydrogen production, with emphasis on photolytical hydrogen processes. The aim of this article is to inform the reader of new research on hydrogen production.

Abstract: We consider a differential system based on the coupling of the Navier–Stokes and Darcy equations for modeling the interaction between surface and porous-media flows. We formulate the problem as an interface equation, we analyze the associated (nonlinear) Steklov–Poincare operators, and we prove its well-posedness. We propose and analyze iterative methods to solve a conforming finite element approximation of the coupled problem.
