TL;DR: This paper proposes a current-controlled voltage-mode control scheme for dispatchable electronically coupled distributed energy resource (DER) units based on sliding- mode control (SMC) strategy that provides fast and stable control on the terminal voltage and frequency of DER unit and ensures protection of the power-electronic interface to external faults.
Abstract: This paper proposes a current-controlled voltage-mode control scheme for dispatchable electronically coupled distributed energy resource (DER) units based on sliding-mode control (SMC) strategy. The proposed control strategy provides fast and stable control on the terminal voltage and frequency of DER unit and ensures protection of the power-electronic interface to external faults. In addition it maintains the quality of the output voltage of the host DER unit in spite of unbalanced and/or distorted load currents. Performance of the proposed SMC strategy is demonstrated through time-domain simulation of a single islanded DER unit, starting from black-start and subjected to various operating scenarios, and it is compared to the performance of a proportional-integral (PI) based control strategy. Also a current-mode control strategy is proposed for DER units based on SMC. The performance of both voltage- and current-mode control strategies are demonstrated in a sample master-slave organized three-unit microgrid.

TL;DR: This article explored the grocery-shopping behavior of suburban middle-class Chinese immigrants in Toronto, where the group's ethnic economy has become full-fledged, using a mixed approach combining focus groups and logistic modeling, examining the preferences of Chinese immigrants between the fast-growing Chinese supermarkets and competing mainstream supermarket chains.
Abstract: This paper contributes to the ongoing debate in the ‘new’ economic geography over the dialectic between the cultural and the economic, and in which the study of the geography of consumption is a prime example. The consumer behavior of culturally distinct immigrants is an intriguing and complex economic and cultural inquiry. In this paper we explore the grocery-shopping behavior of suburban middle-class Chinese immigrants in Toronto, where the group's ethnic economy has become full-fledged. Using a mixed approach combining focus groups and logistic modeling, we examine the preferences of Chinese immigrants between the fast-growing Chinese supermarkets and competing mainstream supermarket chains. Attention is focused upon the interplay of ethnic identity and accessibility in determining store patronage. The findings suggest a stronger effect of ethnic affinity on immigrants' choice of shopping venue than that of economic rationality. Grocery shopping, a most mundane and taken-for-granted activity, is practi...

TL;DR: Eight core competencies with four to ten sub-competencies were identified based on a tension–practice–consequence model and can serve as a tool for tailoring workforce education.
Abstract: Delivering recovery-oriented services is particularly challenging in in-patient settings. The purpose of this study was to identify the most salient recovery competencies required of in-patient providers. Established methods for the development of competencies were used. Data collection included interviews with multiple stakeholders and a literature review. Data analysis focused on understanding how characteristics of the in-patient context influence recovery-enabling service delivery and the competencies associated with addressing these issues. Eight core competencies with four to ten sub-competencies were identified based on a tension–practice–consequence model. The competency framework can serve as a tool for tailoring workforce education.

TL;DR: An overview of the insomnia and suicide literature to-date is presented, and a discussion of two major limitations within this literature that hinder its progress are discussed, which will ultimately inform whether insomnia treatments, particularly cognitive-behavioral therapy for insomnia, can be used to target suicide risk prevention and intervention.
