TL;DR: In this paper, a control scheme for a permanent magnet synchronous generator is proposed, where a current-source converter is employed as the bridge between the generator and the grid for high-power wind energy conversion systems.
Abstract: A novel control scheme for permanent-magnet synchronous generator is proposed in this paper, where a current-source converter is employed as the bridge between the generator and the grid for high-power wind energy conversion systems. In these medium voltage (2.3-13.8 kV) level applications, current-source converters not only have inherent advantages, but also present some challenges for controller design due to the DC link choke and filter capacitors. The control strategy is developed to achieve better performances with improved dynamic response. By maintaining the grid-side converter modulation index at the highest possible level, the proposed control scheme reduces the DC link current to a minimum value to reduce converter conduction loss. The systempsilas dynamic performance is further improved by adopting generator-side power feedforward. Simulation and experimental results are provided to verify the proposed control scheme.

TL;DR: This paper presents a review of different optimization methods for deployment and operation of renewable energy sources based generating units, and presents different types of linear and non-linear optimization algorithms used in renewableEnergy sources.
Abstract: Renewable energy technologies׳ systems are major components of the strategy to reduce harmful emissions and deal with depleting energy resources. It is necessary to deploy renewable energy sources in the best possible way such that cost is minimized and generation is maximized. In this paper, we present a review of different optimization methods for deployment and operation of renewable energy sources based generating units. Unlike other existing reviews, we carry out a general review of this research area, without limiting ourselves to any particular issue or geographic location. We examine this area with respect to different types of renewable energy sources, different modes of operations, types of objective functions for optimization and different geographical areas from which research publication are emanating. We present a general resource allocation problem and specify different possibilities for input, output, objective function and constraints. In addition, we review different objectives used in defining the optimization problems. We also present different types of linear and non-linear optimization algorithms used in renewable energy sources. Finally, we review optimization techniques for applications with respect to different end users.

TL;DR: The proposed adaptive unscented Kalman filtering method provides better accuracy both in battery model parameters estimation and the battery SoC estimation.
Abstract: In this brief, to get a more accurate and robust state of charge (SoC) estimation, the lithium-ion battery model parameters are identified using an adaptive unscented Kalman filtering method, and based on the updated model, the battery SoC is estimated consequently. An adaptive adjustment of the noise covariances in the estimation process is implemented using a technique of covariance matching in the unscented Kalman filter (UKF) context. The effectiveness of the proposed method is evaluated through experiments under different power duties in the laboratory environment. The obtained results are compared with that of the adaptive extended Kalman filter, extended Kalman filter, and unscented Kalman filter-based algorithms. The comparison shows that the proposed method provides better accuracy both in battery model parameters estimation and the battery SoC estimation.

TL;DR: In this paper, a new medium voltage multilevel multistring configuration is introduced based on a three-phase cascaded H-bridge (CHB) converter and multiple string dc-dc converters.
Abstract: Large scale grid connected photovoltaic (PV) energy conversion systems have reached the megawatt level. This imposes new challenges on existing grid interface converter topologies and opens new opportunities to be explored. In this paper a new medium voltage multilevel-multistring configuration is introduced based on a three-phase cascaded H-bridge (CHB) converter and multiple string dc-dc converters. The proposed configuration enables a large increase of the total capacity of the PV system, while improving power quality and efficiency. The converter structure is very flexible and modular since it decouples the grid converter from the PV string converter, which allows to accomplish independent control goals. The main challenge of the proposed configuration is to handle the inherent power imbalances that occur not only between the different cells of one phase of the converter but also between the three phases. The control strategy to deal with these imbalances is also introduced in this paper. Simulation results of a 7-level CHB for a multistring PV system are presented to validate the proposed topology and control method.
