TL;DR: The results provide a framework for using spectral parameter methods to monitor apoptosis in in vitro and in in vivo systems and are being used to guide the design of system and signal analysis parameters.
Abstract: Ultrasound (US) spectral analysis methods are used to analyze the radiofrequency (RF) data collected from cell pellets exposed to chemotherapeutics that induce apoptosis and other chemicals that induce nuclear transformations. Calibrated backscatter spectra from regions-of-interest (ROI) were analyzed using linear regression techniques to calculate the spectral slope and midband fit. Two f/2 transducers, with operating frequencies of 30 and 34 MHz (relative bandwidths of 93% and 78%, respectively) were used with a custom-made imaging system that enabled the collection of the raw RF data. For apoptotic cells, the spectral slope increased from 0.37 dB/MHz before drug exposure to 0.57 dB/MHz 24 h after, corresponding to a change in effective scatterer radius from 8.7 to 3.2 m. The midband fit increased in a time-dependent fashion, peaking at 13dB 24 h after exposure. The statistical deviation of the spectral parameters was in close agreement with theoretical predictions. The results provide a framework for using spectral parameter methods to monitor apoptosis in in vitro and in in vivo systems and are being used to guide the design of system and signal analysis parameters. TL;DR: A method to obtain initial values for the SHE-PWM equations according to the reference modulation index M and the initial phase angle of output fundamental voltage is proposed and investigated thoroughly, proving the validity and practicability of the new method.
Abstract: Half-cycle symmetry selective-harmonic-elimination pulsewidth-modulation (SHE-PWM) problems may have a large number of valid solutions, which are beneficial to the optimization design. This paper proposes a novel generalized formulation of half-cycle symmetry SHE-PWM problems for multilevel inverters. The advantages of the proposed formulation include simplicity in format, flexibility in PWM waveforms, and a broad solution space. A method to obtain initial values for the SHE-PWM equations according to the reference modulation index M and the initial phase angle of output fundamental voltage is proposed and investigated thoroughly. Take a five-level inverter with M = 0.75 as an example; six sets of solutions for two typical initial phase angles of 0° and 90° are presented. Simulations and experiments are carried out. It is demonstrated that the experimental results agree well with simulated ones, which proves the validity and practicability of the new method proposed.

TL;DR: In this article, a brushless doubly-fed induction generator (BDFIG) system and flexible power flow controller for the wind energy conversion is proposed, which employs two cascaded induction machines to eliminate the brushes and copper rings in the traditional DFIG.
Abstract: The development of the brushless doubly-fed induction generator (BDFIG) system and flexible power flow controller for the wind energy conversion is proposed in this paper. The system employs two cascaded induction machines to eliminate the brushes and copper rings in the traditional DFIG. The dynamic model of BDFIG with two machines' rotor electromechanically interconnected is presented and the control strategy for flexible power flow control is developed. The independent control of the active and reactive power flows is achieved by means of a four quadrant power converter under the closed-loop stator flux oriented control scheme. The experimental results obtained verify the proposed controller scheme, which allows wide operational range and reactive power control.
