Abstract: The development of data generating sensors and computers in a modern fixed wing aircraft is not met by an increase in sensorial performance by the operator to assimilate this data. No new sensor has been developed nor has any drastic increase in data perception been implemented in the human operator since the first manned flight by the Wright brothers. Consequently we have to refine the media and the way in which we present data to the pilot. This document describes a platform for test and evaluation of head mounted technology and some new technologies that can be used for decreasing the pilot's workload. Furthermore, the document describes initial tests done on image quality and design of reflective coatings on visors.

Abstract: We investigate the ground clutter homogeneity and target detection performance using airborne multi-channel AESA (Active Electronically Scanned Array) radar data from flight trials over the southern part of Sweden. The data sets consisted of clutter returns from both urban and rural areas. Multivariate normality tests indicate a significant difference between these two environments, and particularly the urban clutter does not fit the Gaussian signal model. Furthermore, we expose differences in terms of homogeneity as well. As homogeneity measure we employed the commonly used generalized inner product (GIP), and compared this to a homogeneity measure based on projection in the eigenspace of the covariance matrix. The focus of our interest was to examine the importance of screening the secondary data from non-homogeneities, when using adaptive target detection in AESA radar systems. To evaluate the non-homogeneity detection (NHD) performance we employed a synthetic target scheme. Our evaluation showed negligible improvement from NHD preprocessing, regardless of method, and hence we conclude that the clutter in our data sets is structurally homogeneous. However, in dense target scenarios it is crucial to screen for target contamination in secondary data, as we demonstrate on real data.

Abstract: A mounting system adapted to receive a plurality of transmitter receiver modules and each including an upper antenna part and a lower electronic components part. The lower part includes transmitter receiver module contacts on the end opposite the upper part. The mounting system includes a substrate rear panel including transmitter receiver module contact receivers on a first side and active support units on a second side. Each contact receiver is adapted to receive transmitter receiver module contacts of one receiver module. The supports are adapted to support a plurality of receiver modules. One single substrate rear panel is adapted to receive the receiver modules in a matrix. The mounting system includes a ground plane and an electric conductive sheet, and is arranged such that when the receiver modules are mounted in the mounting system, the ground plane levels with the receiver modules transition from the upper to the lower part.

Abstract: A scanner for bubble chamber photographs comprises a rotatable mirror-carrying outer member and an inner periscope member that rotates with and moves lengthwise relative to the outer member. The periscope member has accurately straight track surfaces along its length that parallel the rotational axis and lie in substantially perpendicular planes which respectively extend to opposite sides of said axis. Each of said tracks is engaged by rollers carried by the outer member at fixed axially spaced locations. Other rollers on the outer member engage the periscope member under radially inward bias to maintain the track surfaces guidingly engaged with the first mentioned rollers.
