TL;DR: In this paper, a steering wheel is fitted with a control, which, when operated in mutually independent control directions, controls acceleration and deceleration of the vehicle, as well as upward and downward gear changing, and activates one of a number of cruise control functions.
Abstract: A steering wheel (11) is fitted with a control (13) which, when operated in mutually independent control directions (41-45), controls the acceleration and deceleration of the vehicle, as well as upward and downward gear changing, and activates one of a number of cruise control functions. The control (13) may preferably be mounted immediately adjacent to the steering wheel rim (15) on the upper side of a wheel spoke (12), so that it may readily be operated by the driver's thumb without the necessity of releasing the grip on the wheel. Thus, the control incorporates all of the most essential driving control functions. The control according to the present invention encourages the driver to select, at an early stage, those accelerator and gear-change parameters which are most advantageous to economic driving or are most suited to the prevailing traffic conditions, the control actions required involving a minimum of manual movements. The present invention also relates to an arrangement and a method of controlling servo devices for the driving of a motor vehicle, utilizing the control (13) mounted on the steering wheel.

TL;DR: In this paper, a suspension system for motor vehicles is disposed between body and wheel and is provided with a damper (4) with integrated resonance dampers (40, 48) for improved insulation of transmission of road unevenness to the body.
Abstract: A suspension system for motor vehicles is disposed between body (1) and wheel (2) and is provided with a damper (4) with integrated resonance dampers (40, 48) for improved insulation of transmission of road unevenness to the body. The resonance damper is formed in that the casing (40) of the damper (4) forms a moving mass m 40 between the body (1) and the wheel (2), the casing being connected to the wheel via a spring (48) harmonized with the mass m 40 . The pistons (41, 42) of the damper are connected via piston rods (43, 44, respectively) to the body (1) and the wheel (2), respectively. By a fixed adaptively regulated flow between the chambers (5--7) formed in the damper (4) in response to parameters dependent upon the oscillation cycle, there will be obtained improved insulation primarily in those resonance ranges which are typical for suspension systems for motor vehicles,

TL;DR: In this article, a check valve with a flange downstream of the valve seat is designed to prevent the valve head from striking against the seat during pulsating of the flow caused by selective opening of the fuel injection nozzles.
Abstract: A check valve (4) with spherical, spring-loaded valve head (25) is used for pulsating flows, especially in a fuel injection system for Otto engines. As a result of low flow resistance, such check valves have had a tendency to cause noise when the valve head (25) strikes down against the valve seat (11) during pulsating of the flow caused by selective opening of the fuel injection nozzles. The valve head (25) is designed with a flange (7) downstream of the valve seat (11), and this flange (7) interacts with a narrow boring (13) during the first part of the opening stroke. Consequently, a secondary throttling (12) is formed, in addition to the primary throttling between the valve head (25) and the valve seat (11), which contributes to the valve head being forced away at a distance from the valve seat. During the movement of the valve head towards the seat, the flange first comes down into the boring (13), as a result of which the continued movement of the valve head towards the seat is damped by the volume of fluid which lies between flange (7) and seat (11), as a result of which noise is prevented from occurring.

TL;DR: In this article, an internal combustion engine (10) is designed with a cylinder section (11) which is pivoted on a crankcase section (13) to provide different compression ratios.
Abstract: An internal combustion engine (10) is designed with a cylinder section (11) which is pivoted on a crankcase section (13) to provide different compression ratios. The crankcase section (13) is provided with raised lateral walls (21, 22, 24, 25) with upper surfaces (82-85), which lie in the same plane and thereby allow simple assembly of a seal (34) between the cylinder section (11) and crankcase section (13). The lateral walls (21, 22, 24, 25) also enable auxiliary devices for the engine to be easily secured without having to allow for the mobility of the cylinder section (11) relative to the crankcase section (13).

TL;DR: Avant-corps for vehicule automobile, comprising two lateral longitudinal members (7) of two central longitudinal members and a subframe (3) is described in this article.
Forehearth for a motor vehicle, comprising two lateral longitudinal members (7) of two central longitudinal members (9) and a subframe (3). Said forehearth also comprises two uprights (11, 13) connecting the side bars (7) to the central longitudinal members (9) and the central frame plates (9) of the side members which form part of the subframe (3). This configuration allows the front building to have a division of power in three senses through the uprights (11, 13). One can achieve a very good stability and excellent energy absorption during collisions.

TL;DR: In this article, a distribution system for vehicles with a distributor for distributing ventilation air to different bus nozzles located in the vehicle cabin is presented, where rotation of the fan is used to regulate the air flow to the various outlet ducts.
The invention relates to the ventilation system (1) for vehicles with a distributor (4) for distributing ventilation air to different ventilation nozzles (5-10) located in the vehicle cabin. The distributor (4) comprises a cylindrical fan (12) rotatably journalled in a housing (11) and having a housing surface (36) and end walls (37) in which are formed openings (13a, 13b, 14) cooperate with outlet conduits (25-30) which are arranged in the circumferential surface and the housing walls. Thus, rotation of the fan is used to regulate the air flow to the various outlet ducts. Since the housing and the fan each have at least one opening which extends to both the end wall and the circumferential surface, an outlet duct may be formed with a small size in the circumferential direction, thus allowing extremely low pressure drops, so it is possible to provide a plurality of outlet ducts configurations in one compact machine.

A mechanical gearbox, to stepped speeds, includes a plurality of gear pairs (25-34) which cooperate and are arranged on an input shaft (19) and an output shaft (22) and a first lateral shaft ( 24). The pairs of gears can be meshed selectively to provide different gear ratios. In addition, the gearbox comprises a gear (39) disposed on a second side shaft (40), which is used both to create a back and to transmit a driving force to the first side shaft (24). The gearbox can be designed with a low axial space, even when the box has many storied speeds.

TL;DR: This paper proposes a solution to the problem of efficient use of Ada in real time applications by excluding the tasking constructs of the language, and replacing those with a non-Ada real time executive.
Abstract: BACKGROUND. Efficient use of Ada in real time applications has been hindered by a number of factors, some inherent in the language itself, others caused by deficiencies in compiler implementations. Often the recourse of programmers and system implementers has been to use a subset of Ada, in particular excluding the tasking constructs of the language, replacing those with a non-Ada real time executive.

TL;DR: In this article, the shadowing effects of the incident laser light due to metallization were investigated for different pulse widths using both laser and accelerator sources, and the results were in good agreement with the results from the accelerator measurements.
Abstract: Transient radiation responses on VLSI-circuits of various complexities were studied for different pulse widths using both laser and accelerator sources. The shadowing effects of the incident laser light due to the metallization were also investigated. The results were in good agreement with the results from the accelerator measurements. The transmission studies show that the metal cover at the most sensitive latch-up areas on the circuits compared to the reference circuit IDT 6116 follows the VdG/laser ratio latch-up threshold values well. The large divergence (>or=20%) from 1.0 for some circuits' VdG/laser-ratio indicates, however, that the use of only one calibration circuit for radiation assessment with a laser is unsatisfactory. The big difference in metal cover and complexity between circuits requires the use of a reference circuit with similar metal coverage as the circuit under test. >

TL;DR: In this article, an internal combustion engine is mounted in an external combustion engine by a transmission belt for driving an accessory device, which reduces the axial extent of the engine by mounting the belt against the free wheel of the vehicle.
The present invention consists in mounting in an internal combustion engine by a transmission belt (23) for driving an accessory device (26). In this arrangement, the deflector elements (27, 28) are arranged so that the drive belt (24) for driving the support assembly comes for example against the free wheel (16) of the engine. The deflector elements (27, 28) are arranged so that the area (32) delimited by the drive belt (24) lies outside the area which includes the axis of rotation (31) of the wheel free (16). Since, therefore, the drive belt (24) can be mounted without necessarily cross the axis of rotation (31), such a transmission belt (23) may simply be installed in the rear of the engine, which reduces the motor axial extent.

Abstract: The ringing in the impulse response for a SPRITE based thermal imager is analyzed. The optimum choice of anamorphic ratio and boost filter parameters is derived under a constraint for maximum ringing in the impulse response. It appears that the optimum value for the anamorphic ratio is about 1.4 and that it is optimal to have a boost that gives the maximally allowed percentage of ringing.

TL;DR: In this article, the Euler and Navier-Stokes equations were used to study the leeside flow of a delta wing of 70° sweep at M ∞ = 7.15 and α = 30° by means of numerical simulations.
Abstract: In recent years research investigations have enhanced considerably our knowledge about the flow over the leeside of a delta wing in low and transonic speeds. But we still know relatively little about the corresponding flow in hypersonic speed. The flow here is very near to vacuum, and the extent of vortical flow structures, if any, is not generally known. The purpose of this work is to study the leeside flow over a thick blunt- edged delta wing of 70° sweep at M ∞ = 7.15 and α = 30° by means of numerical simulations using the Euler and Navier- Stokes equations.
