04 Dec 2000TL;DR: In an ignition electrode arrangement for a cylinder in an internal combustion engine, for example an Otto engine, a cylinder head (3 ) bears a first electrode (7 ) and a second electrode (8 ) which interact with one another as discussed by the authors.
Abstract: In an ignition electrode arrangement for a cylinder in an internal combustion engine, for example an Otto engine, a cylinder head ( 3 ) bears a first electrode ( 7 ) and a second electrode ( 8 ) which interact with one another At least the first electrode ( 7 ) is arranged on an ignition means ( 6 ) fastened in the cylinder head According to the invention, the second electrode ( 8 ) is movable relative to the cylinder head ( 3 ) and the first electrode ( 7 ) in order to make it possible to change the spark gap The second electrode ( 8 ) can be mounted on the cylinder head ( 3 ) itself or on the ignition device ( 6 ) The size of the spark gap is controlled during operation by the ignition system of the engine

01 Jan 2015TL;DR: In this article, a zonal hybrid RANS-LES approach was proposed to simulate the attached boundary layer flow prior to the SBLI region in RANS mode, and then the model switches to its hybrid LES mode over a buffer zone in order to avoid possible discontinuities.
Abstract: Transonic duct flow with shock/boundary-layer interaction (SBLI) was analyzed using a zonal hybrid RANS-LES approach. The proposed zonal approach simulates the attached boundary layer flow, prior to the SBLI region in RANS mode. At a prescribed streamwise location, upstream of the SBLI region, the model switches to its hybrid RANS-LES mode over a buffer zone in order to avoid possible discontinuities. The corner separation bubbles, induced by the shock at M = 1.4, were mostly simulated in LES mode in order to improve the SBLI flow prediction. In addition to comparisons with experimental data, the zonal approach is compared to simulations using the SA-DDES and SA-IDDES model. The zonal approach predicted a corner separation bubble and a \(\lambda \)-shape shock which is in good agreement with experimental data. Furthermore, the predicted pressure rise across the shock agrees reasonably well with the experiment.

04 Dec 2007TL;DR: The use of commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) microprocessors for safetycritical applications usually implies derating of the device to make it work in harsh environment as discussed by the authors.
Abstract: The use of commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) microprocessors for safety-critical applications usually implies derating of the device to make it work in harsh environment. This paper discusses derating concerns for state-of-the-art microprocessors. Issues addressed in the paper include noise margins due to low voltage levels, multiple power supplies, frequency and current derating concerns, error sources, timing degradation, power-aware architectures, and new advanced microprocessor derating features.
