TL;DR: Fusion of different types of filters where the weaknesses of each design can be avoided and the strengths preserved leads to suppression of false alarms, and enhancement of the true correlation peaks.
Abstract: Over the years many correlation filter designs for automatic target recognition have been proposed. Some designs offer high tolerance to different types of noise and clutter with the disadvantage of not so sharp correlation peaks. Other designs give sharp correlation peaks but low tolerance to disturbances. A fusion of different types of filters where the weaknesses of each design can be avoided and the strengths preserved has earlier been proposed. We have used an optical correlator with binary SLM:s. Because of this, the complex gray-scale correlation filters are binarized. The input image is edge enhanced and binarized before entering the system. By using different binarizations, the filters produce different false alarm-peaks, but equivalent correlation peaks in the correlation plane. Optical correlation is performed with the filters and the results are fused giving the resulting correlation image. Fusion of the results leads to suppression of false alarms, and enhancement of the true correlation peaks. Tests have been performed on both high and low contrast cluttered images with good results.© (1998) COPYRIGHT SPIE--The International Society for Optical Engineering. TL;DR: The use of commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) microprocessors for safety-critical applications usually implies derating of the device to make it work in harsh environments as mentioned in this paper.
Abstract: The use of commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) microprocessors for safety-critical applications usually implies derating of the device to make it work in harsh environments. We discuss derating concerns for state-of-the-art microprocessors. Issues addressed herein include noise margins due to low voltage levels, multiple power supplies, frequency and current derating concerns, error sources, timing degradation, power-aware architectures, and new advanced microprocessor derating features.

TL;DR: In this article, the effect of commutation terms at the RANS-LES interface was investigated and it was concluded that the proposed commutation term is needed for the LES simulated flow to accurately predict the skin friction.
Abstract: With the aim to mitigate the grey area at the RANS-LES interface, the effect of commutation terms is investigated. Simulations of fully developed channel flow and spatially developing boundary layer flow are presented using the commutation terms at the RANS-LES interfaces. The commutation terms are added as source terms in the k, \(\omega \) and momentum equations of a zonal RANS-LES model. It is concluded that as an inlet in embedded LES of the developing boundary layer flow, the use of the proposed commutation terms are needed for the LES simulated flow to accurately predict the skin friction. However, it is demonstrated for flows where the RANS-LES interface aligns with the mean flow direction that the effect of the proposed interface methodology is weak.

TL;DR: The paper develops an alternative CDMA method, called Slow Chirp Modulation (SCM), which utilizes the full coherent integration time for transmission of a single aperiodic but ergodic signal, allowing target range and velocity to be retrieved but minimizing spectral occupancy.
Abstract: The cohabitation of several radars, operating in the same frequency band, has become an essential and urgent topic as active safety systems for automotive applications are rolled out. An obvious concern is that mutual interference must be managed. Separating users in time, i.e. TDMA, achieves the required level of isolation in a straightforward way. CDMA techniques providing sufficient channel isolation are less obvious. The paper develops an alternative CDMA method, called Slow Chirp Modulation (SCM). SCM utilizes the full coherent integration time for transmission of a single aperiodic but ergodic signal, allowing target range and velocity to be retrieved but minimizing spectral occupancy. Spectral efficiency two orders of magnitude higher than for the discussed alternative methods is obtained, allowing more than a thousand non-interfering channels. Relying on indicated hardware schematics, the paper demonstrates the functionality of the novel signal processing algorithms, which are required for SCM.
