TL;DR: In this article, an experimental within-group design study with 10 participants (5 male, and 5 female) was performed with a significant difference, F(2,16) = 5.11, p = 0.019, in mental workload between an engine failure condition and an normal condition for eye blink frequency.
Abstract: This study is one of a series of studies, researching various aspects that all aim at enhanced simulation based certification aiding for aircraft. An experimental within-group design study was performed with 10 participants (5 male, and 5 female). The results showed a significant difference, F(2,16) = 5.11, p = 0.019, in mental workload between an engine failure condition and an normal condition for eye blink frequency. No effect of speed at the engine failure event on mental workload was found.

08 Apr 2013TL;DR: A fast image based compensation method is adapted which transforms the ISAR image into the far-field region and in essence renders accurate RCS determinations for the targets.
Abstract: The ISAR measurement technique and analysis at Saab is discussed. The traditional criterion for far-field distance is not satisfied as the scattering measurements often are conducted for aircraft at 100 m measurement distance. The considerable phase variation over the target that results leads to near-field measurements. We have therefore adapted a fast image based compensation method which transforms the ISAR image into the far-field region and in essence renders accurate RCS determinations for the targets. RCS measurements at Saab can be dated back to 1986. We will in this paper give an overview of our activities and methodology.

30 Sep 2005TL;DR: In this paper, a radar level gauge system is described, having a transmitter for transmitting measuring signals towards the surface of the filling material, a receiver for receiving echo signals from said surface and a fastening structure adapted to secure said transmitter and receiver in a measuring position on a feed-through structure located in an upper boundary of said container.
Abstract: A radar level gauge system is disclosed, having a transmitter for transmitting measuring signals towards the surface of the filling material, a receiver for receiving echo signals from said surface and a fastening structure adapted to secure said transmitter and receiver in a measuring position on a feed-through structure located in an upper boundary of said container. Further, a sealing unit is arranged between said fastening structure and said feed-through, and adapted to provide a pressure seal between the inside and the outside of the container, and in addition, there is provided means for blocking electromagnetic energy, adapted to block net transfer of electromagnetic energy between the inside and the outside of the container through said sealing unit.

01 Sep 2008TL;DR: In this article, an experiment was conducted to investigate how operators' understanding of a dynamic situation is affected by the content in a technical system's situational picture, and the authors found that operators should use a joint situational picture and not adjust it to their own specific requirements in order to increase shared situational understanding.
Abstract: An experiment has been completed to investigate how operators' understanding of a dynamic situation is affected by the content in a technical system's situational picture. Two types of situational pictures were used. One displayed a unique situational picture adjusted to operators' specific needs and the other displayed a joint identical situational picture. The experiment was conducted as a within subject design with four different teams. Results shows that content in a technical system's situational picture influence operators' information interpretation, perceived performance and situational understanding. Furthermore, operators are not aware of that the reason for the differences is the content in the situwational picture. Findings from this experiment show that operators should use a joint situational picture and not adjust it to their own specific requirements in order to increase shared situational understanding and perceived performance.

17 Dec 2007TL;DR: In this paper, the use of a dielectric super-layer is proposed to shape the radiation pattern of each feed so that the spill over from the reflector is reduced without increasing the dimensions of each aperture.
Abstract: The performances of focal plane arrays that implement multi-beam coverage from a single reflector antenna are usually reduced by conflicting requirements on the feed elements. Dense packing is required to minimize the beam separation, while typically large apertures provide the high feed directivity which in turn translates in low spill over losses from the reflector. In this paper the use of a dielectric super-layer is proposed to shape the radiation pattern of each feed so that the spill over from the reflector is reduced without increasing the dimensions of each aperture. A prototype with 19 wave-guides arranged in a hexagonal lattice has been designed. The simulated embedded patterns provide an increase of the edge of coverage gain, with respect to the free space case, of at least 1 dB in an operating bandwidth of ap 6%. Moreover when a frequency and polarization reuse scheme is adopted the increase in the edge of coverage is 2.1 dB leading to a fully efficient use of the reflector.
