TL;DR: A method for automated discovery of potential dependencies between software components based on analyzing revision history of software repositories is presented and the result is a map of implicit dependencies which is used by architects in decisions on the evolution of the architecture.
Abstract: The principles of Agile software development are increasingly used in large software development projects, e.g. using Scrum of Scrums or combining Agile and Lean development methods. When large software products are developed by self-organized, usually feature-oriented teams, there is a risk that architectural dependencies between software components become uncontrolled. In particular there is a risk that the prescriptive architecture models in form of diagrams are outdated and implicit architectural dependencies may become more frequent than the explicit ones. In this paper we present a method for automated discovery of potential dependencies between software components based on analyzing revision history of software repositories. The result of this method is a map of implicit dependencies which is used by architects in decisions on the evolution of the architecture. The software architects can assess the validity of the dependencies and can prevent unwanted component couplings and design erosion hence minimizing the risk of post-release quality problems. Our method was evaluated in a case study at one large product at Saab Electronic Defense Systems (Saab EDS) and one large software product at Ericsson AB.

TL;DR: The rationale for selecting UML-SysML is given, along with a description of the situation at the project planning stage regarding business conditions, method and tools support, as well as the usage of use case, sequence, and activity diagrams and definition of functional chains with SysML.
Abstract: A Unified Modeling Language-Systems Modeling Language (UML-SysML) subset was the modeling notation selected for an aerospace systems engineering project at Saab Aerosystems. In this paper, the rationale for selecting UML-SysML is given, along with a description of the situation at the project planning stage regarding business conditions, method and tools support. The usage of use case, sequence, and activity diagrams are described as well as definition of functional chains with SysML. Furthermore, the connections to system implementation activities including code generation and simulation are discussed. The advantages and disadvantages of using UML-SysML from experience in an industrial context are reported. It is also described how UML-SysML is related to industrial research projects in the Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) methods and tools area. Introducing UML-SysML with a methodology and a supporting toolset in an operative organization require a clear strategy, including planning, just-in-time training, and mentor support. Finally, industrial needs for further development of SysML are discussed. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

TL;DR: The results show that the proposed new array receive calibration method performs much better than linear interpolation or global (direction independent) calibration regarding direction of arrival estimation using MUSIC for arrays with large position errors.
Abstract: Today most arrays have a very high mechanical and electrical accuracy Our aim is to allow for larger errors (low manufacturing cost), while keeping the calibration grid sparse (low calibration cost) To be able to handle the imperfections causing scan dependent errors (like position errors), we suggest a new array receive calibration method based on local models The results show that our method performs much better than linear interpolation or global (direction independent) calibration regarding direction of arrival estimation using MUSIC for arrays with large position errors In beamforming for eg communication, however, the global calibration performs better (lower side lobes) since it is optimized for the whole calibration region, while the local calibration is optimized for one direction

TL;DR: In this paper solution for low-cost automation of aircraft assembly is presented and the robot is used to perform reconfiguration of tooling modules that are possible to be configured/reconfigured in six degrees of freedom.
Abstract: In this paper solution for low-cost automation of aircraft assembly is presented. The concept of this development is closely related to “Lean Automation”, which in this case concerns the use of modern standard equipment such as standard robots, PC-computers and a newly developed spatial sensor system for precision measurements of positions. The robot is used to perform reconfiguration of tooling modules that are possible to be configured/reconfigured in six degrees of freedom. A prototype developed as the result of an EUproject called ADFAST* has been evaluated at Linkoping University in Sweden. Technical functionality is reported where the robot manages to configure the flexible tooling modules to a total error bellow 50 µm. This paper presents the results on the portion of the project addressing robot, metrology system and tooling.
