TL;DR: The characteristics and results of the work are presented, and a practical framework for how to use COSMIC FSM for size estimation purposes is provided, which concludes that a clear purpose of the estimation process, a well-defined domain allowing categorization of software, consistent content and quality of requirements, and historical data from implemented software are key factors.
Abstract: To estimate software code size early in the development process is important for developing cost-efficient embedded systems. We have applied the COSMIC Functional Size Measurement (FSM) method for size estimation of embedded software components in the automotive industry. Correlational studies were conducted using data from two automotive companies. The studies show strong correlation between functional size and software code size, which is important for obtaining accurate estimation results. This paper presents the characteristics and results of our work, and aims to provide a practical framework for how to use COSMIC FSM for size estimation purposes. We investigate the results from our earlier correlational studies, and conduct further studies to identify such a framework. Based on these activities, we conclude that a clear purpose of the estimation process, a well-defined domain allowing categorization of software, consistent content and quality of requirements, and historical data from implemented software are key factors for size estimation of embedded software components.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors describe a fire protection installation consisting of a mist sprayer system with at least one nozzle, through which extinguishing medium in the form of liquid is arranged to be sprayed out at high pressure, so that a mist is created for achieving fire extinguishing by cooling of combustion gases and the seat of the fire.
Abstract: The invention relates to a fire protection installation (30) comprising a mist sprayer system with at least one nozzle (5, 10) through which extinguishing medium in the form of liquid is arranged to be sprayed out at high pressure, so that a mist is created for achieving fire extinguishing by means of cooling of combustion gases and the seat of the fire. The distinguishing characteristics are that the fire protection installation is portable and has a modular construction comprising a basic system (31) and a number of customized additional systems, which additional systems comprise different additional units that are adapted to a particular function profile that is set in the actual fire protection installation.

TL;DR: In this article, a radar level gauge system is described, consisting of a transmitter for transmitting pulsed measuring signals into a tank; a receiver for receiving echo signals from the tank; and processing circuitry for processing the received echo signals.
Abstract: A radar level gauge system is disclosed, comprising: a transmitter for transmitting pulsed measuring signals into a tank; a receiver for receiving echo signals from the tank; and processing circuitry for processing the received echo signals, said processing means including an amplifier for amplification of the received echo signals. Further, the amplifier is operable in a high and a low amplification mode, and the processing circuitry is arranged to control the amplifier intermittently in order to be in the high amplification mode only during certain time slots. By intermittently operating the amplifier in a low amplification mode, providing only a low or moderate amplification, or preferably being shut off (i.e. with essentially no amplification), the power required for the amplification could be significantly reduced. Further, the noise generated by the amplifier could be significantly reduced. A corresponding processing circuitry and operating method are also disclosed.

TL;DR: In this paper, an antenna device for determining the filling level of a filling material in a container (tank) is disclosed, which comprises an essentially flat array antenna with an emitting area for emitting measuring signals towards the surface of the filling material and means for holding the array antenna over an opening of the container and to be connected to the rim of said opening in at least two points of attachment.
Abstract: An antenna device for determining the filling level of a filling material in a container (tank) is disclosed. The antenna device comprises an essentially flat array antenna with an emitting area for emitting measuring signals towards the surface of the filling material and means for holding the array antenna over an opening of the container and to be connected to the rim of said opening in at least two points of attachment. Further, it comprises a protective dielectric cover covering said emitting area, wherein said dielectric cover has an extension larger than said opening in order to extend over the rim of said opening. The antenna device provides several advantages, such as a very efficient sealing of the container opening, a very clean solution towards the container and a very effective protection of the array antenna. In particular, the antenna device is useful in applications where resistance against contaminations are of special importance, such as in micobiological applications, and in applications where it is of importance to avoid extension of the antenna device into the container interior.
