TL;DR: In this article, a compact wideband transition between an array of microstrip lines (MLs) and a single substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) is presented, where signals are transferred with nearly uniform power distribution across the ML ports, which facilitate an effective utilization of power amplifiers once interconnected.
Abstract: A compact wideband transition between an array of microstrip lines (MLs) and a single substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) is presented The spatially distributed fundamental SIW mode is excited by an array of parallel and strongly coupled MLs The proposed configuration is optimized by minimizing the “active” reflection coefficient at each ML port Signals are transferred with nearly uniform power distribution across the ML ports, which facilitate an effective utilization of power amplifiers once interconnected Measured results of the proof-of-concept demonstrator are in good agreement with simulations The proposed configuration is capable of generating more power per footprint size relative to a single microstrip-to-SIW transition while offering a 50% bandwidth At the same time, the compactness of the ML-to-SIW transition makes it suitable for tight integration with monolithic microwave integrated circuits and applications in wideband array antennas

TL;DR: It has been found that a numerical approximation of a ship-designer's spline results in a smooth interpolating function and an algorithm which computes the function coefficients is presented in Algol.
Abstract: It has been found that a numerical approximation of a ship-designer's spline results in a smooth interpolating function. An algorithm which computes the function coefficients is presented in Algol. Methods to vary the stiffnes of the spline are included. A test of fairness is described and finally a more elaborate algorithm which leads to a closer approximation is outlined.

TL;DR: In this article, the effect of surge on the operational range of a ported shroud turbocharger was investigated using Particle Imaging Velocimetry (PIV) measurements of the instantaneous and mean velocity field at the inlet.
Abstract: Surge is a phenomenon that limits the operational range of the compressor at low mass flow rates. The objective of this research is to study effective operational range for a ported shroud compressor. The size of the compressor is typical for a turbocharger used on diesel engines. To be able to extend the operational range, the surge characteristics have to be assessed. This is done by performing measurement of the flow at the inlet to the compressor wheel and pressure fluctuations at the inlet and outlet of the compressor housing. Detailed numerical computations of the flow in the entire compressor section under similar operating conditions have also been carried out. The experimental work includes Particle Imaging Velocimetry (PIV) measurements of the instantaneous and mean velocity field at the inlet. At surge, low frequency pulsations are detected that seem to result from back flow already observed in stall. The numerical computations include details of the flow by having good spatial and temporal resolution and using Large Eddy Simulations (LES) to account for the turbulence. LES is most suitable for the surge flow since it resolves the large scale structures, such as flow separation and reversed flow, which characterize surge.

TL;DR: In this paper, a system for monitoring a remote underwater location using an unmanned underwater vessel (UOV) is described, in which the UAV has a position tracking control system for controlling the position of that vessel on a body of water and relative to a UAV.
Abstract: A system for monitoring a remote underwater location using an unmanned underwater vessel ( 5 ). The system includes an unmanned surface vessel ( 8 ), a communication unit ( 7 ) for submerged location and connected to the unmanned surface vessel ( 8 ) and in which the unmanned surface vessel has a position tracking control system for controlling the position of that vessel on a body of water and relative to the unmanned underwater vehicle ( 5 ). The communication unit ( 7 ) has a first wireless communication arrangement for communication with the unmanned underwater vehicle, a second wired communication arrangement ( 10 ) for communication with the unmanned surface vessel and the unmanned surface vessel has a third communication arrangement for communication with an operator or observer ( 1 ) remote from the unmanned surface vessel and the unmanned underwater vehicle. The three communication arrangements are arranged in series such that, in use, the operator or observer may communication with the unmanned/autonomous underwater vehicle via the unmanned surface vessel, the wired connection between the unmanned surface vessel and the communication unit, and the wireless connection between the communication unit and the unmanned underwater vehicle
