TL;DR: This paper presents a formal mathematical framework for the use of the morphological matrix in a computerized conceptual design framework for subsystems for an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle and an aircraft fuel transfer system.
Abstract: This paper presents a formal mathematical framework for the use of the morphological matrix in a computerized conceptual design framework. Within the presented framework, the matrix is quantified so that each solution principle is associated with a set of characteristics such as weight, cost, performance, etc. Selection of individual solutions is modeled with decision variables and an optimization problem is formulated. The applications are the conceptual design of subsystems for an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle and an aircraft fuel transfer system. Both the system models and the mathematical framework are implemented in MS Excel.

TL;DR: Physical models of the parasagittal human skull/brain have been tested to investigate whether the cerebral ventricles provide natural protection of the brain by relieving strain during head rotation and the lateral ventricle play an important role as strain relievers.

TL;DR: In this paper, a case study of a missile launcher beam redesigned for additive manufacturing using three different approaches is presented, and the redesigned parts are compared for mass and cost, and it is shown that redesigning for AM can reduce mass but depending on part size and print speed, the part can become more expensive than the original design, creating a need to know the customer value of what the redesigned part provides.

29 Oct 1992TL;DR: In this paper, the authors described a method for producing a thin, substantially inelastic, optically transparent window formed continuously integral with the sleeve at or proximate to the closed, distal end of the sleeve.
Abstract: Sterile disposable coverings for endoscopes and similar optical medical instruments are disclosed together with a method for preparing such coverings. By forming a heated polymeric film with a mandrel of appropriate shape and dimensions, relatively long-length, very small diameter, closely-fitting, thin-walled sleeves are produced, each having a thin, substantially inelastic, optically transparent window formed continuously integral with the sleeve at or proximate to the closed, distal end of the sleeve.

17 Apr 2001TL;DR: In this paper, a media access control (MAC) controller is disclosed for a network providing communication for network stations (110,120,130) located at a plurality of customer premises and sharing a communication medium.
Abstract: A media access control (MAC) controller is disclosed for a network providing communication for network stations (110,120,130) located at a plurality of customer premises and sharing a communication medium, each of the premises having a plurality of network stations. The MAC controller includes a virtual local area network (vLAN) controller, providing access to the communication medium for and communication among the stations located at a single customer's premises, to define a vLAN (fig.1) between them. A group local area network (gLAN) controller provides access to the communication medium for and communication among interfering vLANs, two vLANs being considered to be interfering when one can sense communications over the medium from a station in the other. A MAC controller is provided in at least one station in a vLAN. The MAC controller is preferably connected to use as the communication medium the portion of a power line at the output of the last step down transformer (fig.1) and utilizes a token passing protocol (204) to control access to the medium.
