TL;DR: A strange convergence is taking place between the roles of programmers and end-users, where professional programmers are now end users of complex IDEs (Integrated Development Environments) similar to tools for non-programmers.
Abstract: End-User Programming has not lived up to expectations: today's computer world is dominated by "fatware" programs with hundreds of features, not simple applications built by the users themselves. Yet a strange convergence is taking place between the roles of programmers and end-users. Professional programmers are now end users of complex IDEs (Integrated Development Environments) similar to tools for non-programmers. On the other end of the scale, end users of major applications are gradually eased into real programming by extensive customization, macro recorders, "wizards", and GUI builders. In between are the informally-trained software professionals we call "blended-user programmers" who configure computers and networks, control industrial machines, and build active Web pages and business applications. Like conventional programmers, they are paid to program full-time, and develop skills in a variety of tools. Like end-users, their knowledge is applied and experimental rather than theoretical. Many started as end users, but moved into these software careers instead of becoming "gurus" or "gardeners" [1] who help other users.

TL;DR: Novel implementations of the Fast Fourier Transform on the massively parallel Connex Array#8482;(CA) circuit are presented, and the estimated performance is 19 GFlops of parallel computing 64 FFTs of size 1024, using 5 Watts.
Abstract: We present novel implementations of the Fast Fourier Transform on the massively parallel Connex Array™(CA) circuit. The estimated performance is 19 GFlops (BenchFFT metric) of parallel computing 64 FFTs of size 1024, using 5 Watts. We compare the CA and NVIDIA's GTX 285 GPU performance. The CA is not a direct NVIDIA competitor, targeting a different application area. Considering its low power dissipation, the CA is a good solution for low cost mobile computing equipment, video processing, and multi-channel high-sampling audio processing.

TL;DR: Current intervention programs that focus on raising knowledge regarding what contributes to a healthy weight are limited to reducing body size disparities; understanding social and gender meanings of ideal body size may be the key to curbing the trend toward obesity disparities in China.
Abstract: Objectives This study was an exploration of whether raising the level of knowledge regarding healthy eating and physical activity at all socioeconomic status (SES) levels is vital to reducing the SES gradient in body size disparities. Methods This study uses longitudinal data with a total of 20,757 person-years drawn from 11,469 households of individuals aged 18-55 who participated in the 2004, 2006, 2009, and 2011 China Health and Nutrition Survey. Linear mixed-effects regression models capture the link among SES, knowledge of healthy eating and physical activity, and body mass index (BMI). All analyses are stratified by sex. Results The results show there are knowledge gaps among SES groups from 2004-2011 for both men and women. In addition, there is a positive association between knowledge and BMI for men and no association for women. Conversely, the results suggest differentiated effects of knowledge on women's BMI by educational attainment. Conclusions Current intervention programs that focus on raising knowledge regarding what contributes to a healthy weight are limited to reducing body size disparities; understanding social and gender meanings of ideal body size may be the key to curbing the trend toward obesity disparities in China.
