TL;DR: Most injury patterns were not predictive of postdischarge death, whereas several comorbidities were more common in those who died, and a focus on medical optimization can reduce 1-year postdis discharge death.
Abstract: Background Falls are the leading cause of trauma-related death in the elderly, but postdischarge outcomes' data are lacking. The purpose of this study was to evaluate 12-month postdischarge mortality and causes of death. Methods A retrospective review was conducted of patients 65 years and older admitted for a fall and discharged alive. Data collection included demographics, injury characteristics, hospitalization details, and outcomes. A state death database and hospital records were queried to identify patients who died within 12 months of hospital discharge. Results Of 347 patients meeting inclusion criteria, 74 (21.3%) died within 12 months postdischarge. These patients were older than those who survived (83.4 vs 79.1 years, P Conclusions Injury characteristics do not predict postdischarge mortality. However, pre-existing comorbidities, including advanced age were predictive of postdischarge mortality. Further study is needed to determine whether a focus on medical optimization can reduce 1-year postdischarge death.

TL;DR: Results indicate that the major radiation dose occurs during preparation, and the total dose is well below the maximum permissible dose set by the National Council on Radiation Protection.
Abstract: Since there has not been a great deal in the literature on personnel radiation exposure, particularly to the hands, we investigated the question of which phase of radionuclide handling causes the greatest radiation dose to the hands: preparation or injection. Results indicate that the major radiation dose occurs during preparation. The total dose, however, is well below the maximum permissible dose set by the National Council on Radiation Protection. Lead foil wrapped around the syringe cuts the dose to the hands somewhat, but the overall exposure to the hands while injecting is quite small.

TL;DR: The Rural Outreach Chemistry for Kids (R.O.C.K) program as mentioned in this paper was designed as a service learning project for students at Saint Francis University to serve the local communities by organizing chemistry activities in high schools.
Abstract: The Rural Outreach Chemistry for Kids (R.O.C.K.) program was designed as a service-learning project for students at Saint Francis University to serve the local communities by organizing chemistry activities in high schools. It was initiated in 1995 and has involved a large number of Saint Francis University students and local high school students. This article presents an evaluation of the R.O.C.K. program and discussion of its findings. The evaluation was conducted using multiple evaluation designs to assess the impact of the program on high school students' interest in science and Saint Francis students' learning process and their views on service-learning. The results indicate that program was effective and had positive impact on both high school and Saint Francis students who participated.
