Abstract: A multiple antenna system including a mobile station and a base station are operable to perform a method for transmitting control information for interference mitigation. A Mobile Station (MS) can transmit control information for interference mitigation. The MS determines a first Precoding Matrix Index (PMI) and a second PMI for interference from an adjacent Base Station (BS). Based on a correlation level from correlation values between one of the first PMI and second PMI and the remaining PMIs in the codebook, the MS determines a level of a subset of PMIs, and feeds back information indicating the correlation level.

Abstract: A method and system for providing a magnetic element that can be used in a magnetic memory is disclosed. The magnetic element includes pinned, nonmagnetic spacer, free, and heat assisted switching layers. The spacer layer resides between the pinned and free layers. The free layer resides between the spacer and heat assisted switching layers. The heat assisted switching layer improves thermal stability of the free layer when the free layer is not being switched, preferably by exchange coupling with the free layer. The free layer is switched using spin transfer when a write current is passed through the magnet element. The write current preferably also heats the magnetic element to reduce the stabilization of the free layer provided by the heat assisted switching layer. In another aspect, the magnetic element also includes a second free layer, a second, nonmagnetic spacer layer, and a second pinned layer. The heat assisted switching layer resides between the two free layers, which are magnetostatically coupled. The second spacer layer resides between the second free and second pinned layers.

Abstract: The notion of quasi-orthogonal sequence (QOS) as a means of increasing the number of channels in synchronous code-division multiple-access (CDMA) systems that employ Walsh sequences for spreading information signals and separating channels is introduced. It is shown that a QOS sequence may be regarded as a class of Bent (almost Bent) functions possessing, in addition, a certain window property. Such sequences while increasing the system capacity, minimize interference to the existing set of Walsh sequences. The window property gives the system the ability to handle variable data rates. A general procedure of constructing QOSs from well-known families of binary sequences with good correlation, including the Kasami and Gold (1967) sequence families, as well as from the binary Kerdock code is provided. Examples of QOSs are presented for small lengths. Some examples of quaternary QOSs drawn from Family A are also included.

Abstract: Flexible lithium-ion batteries are critical for the next-generation electronics. However, during the practical application, they may break under deformations such as twisting and cutting, causing their failure to work or even serious safety problems. A new family of all-solid-state and flexible aqueous lithium ion batteries that can self-heal after breaking has been created by designing aligned carbon nanotube sheets loaded with LiMn2 O4 and LiTi2 (PO4 )3 nanoparticles on a self-healing polymer substrate as electrodes, and a new kind of lithium sulfate/sodium carboxymethylcellulose serves as both gel electrolyte and separator. The specific capacity, rate capability, and cycling performance can be well maintained after repeated cutting and self-healing. These self-healing batteries are demonstrated to be promising for wearable devices.

Abstract: The performance of cellular phones and other mobile or wireless terminals operating in multipath propagation environment can be greatly improved by introducing different diversity schemes. The improvement is characterized in terms of a diversity gain. An effective diversity gain is defined here. This is an absolute measure of diversity gain and can therefore be used to compare different diversity antennas. The Letter also shows how the effective diversity gain can be measured in a reverberation chamber. Measured effective diversity gains agree much better with theoretical diversity gains than measured values published previously. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
