Abstract: White light-emitting diodes (LEDs) are becoming widespread in commercial lighting applications, and there are predictions that they will be in common use in domestic applications in the future. There is also growing interest in using these devices for both illumination and communications. One of the major challenges in visible light communications is the low modulation bandwidth (BW) available from devices, which is typically several megahertz. In this letter, we describe a link that uses 16 LEDs which are modulated using a resonant driving technique, creating an overall BW of 25 MHz. This is used to implement a 40-Mb/s nonreturn-to-zero on-off keying link which operates at low error rates, and also provides illumination at levels sufficient for a standard office environment.

Abstract: A new type of a parallel wire-driven robot is proposed in order to reach ultra-high speed. The driving principle of parallel wire systems is described. Since wires can only pull and not push on an object, at least np1 wires are needed in order to move the object in a n-dimensional space. In this paper, taking account of the effect of such redundancy on actuation, the motion stability in wire length coordinates is analyzed by using a Lyapunov function. Using “Vector Closure”, it is proven that the hand position and orientation converge to the corresponding desired values and the internal force also converges to the desired one. Moreover, by making good use of non-linear elasticity of parallel wire driven robots, it is claimed that the internal force arising from redundant actuation can effectively reduce vibration when the high-speed robot stops at desired points. As a result, ultra-high speed with more than 40 g(g:gravitational acceleration) can be attained by using relatively small actuators.

Abstract: An atomic layer deposition method of forming a solid thin film layer containing silicon. A substrate is loaded into a chamber. A first portion of a first reactant is chemisorbed onto the substrate, and a second portion of the first reactant is physisorbed onto the substrate. The physisorbed portion is purged from the substrate and the chamber. A second reactant is injected into the chamber. A first portion is chemically reacted with the chemisorbed first reactant to form a silicon-containing solid on the substrate. The first reactant is preferably Si[N(CH 3 ) 2 ] 4 , SiH[N(CH 3 ) 2 ] 3 , SiH 2 [N(CH 3 ) 2 ] 2 or SiH 3 [N(CH 3 ) 2 ]. The second reactant is preferably activated NH 3 .

Abstract: A method and an apparatus for performing synchronization by a first device in a Device-to-Device (D2D) network are provided. The method includes detecting a synchronization signal from at least one second device during one period, determining a phase adjustment value depending on a number of synchronization signals, which have been detected from the at least one second device during the one period, adjusting a phase value of a first device using the phase adjustment value, and transmitting a synchronization signal if the phase value of the first device reaches a predetermined specific value.
