TL;DR: In this article, the employment effect of wage discrimination in the well-known Weber-Moses triangular model was examined and it was shown that wage discrimination may decrease total employment if the more elastic labor supply curve is convex and the less elastic labor curve is concave.
Abstract: This paper examines the employment effect of wage discrimination in the well-known Weber-Moses triangular model. Assume that the plant location is a choice variable. It shows that the wage discrimination will change total employment of a monopsony if the supply labor curves in two separate markets are linear. It also shows that the wage discrimination may decrease total employment if the more elastic labor supply curve is convex and the less elastic labor supply curve is concave. These results are significantly different from the traditional results in the non-spatial economy. It indicates that the location decision of a firm has an important impact on the employment effect of wage discrimination.

TL;DR: Experimental variables used included the update interval motion of the aircraft, the update type, (that is, whether the two aircraft were updated at the same update interval or not), the background (grid pattern or no background), and encounter type (straight or curved).
Abstract: The concept of a cockpit display of traffic information (CDTI) includes the integration of air traffic, navigation, and other pertinent information in a single electronic display in the cockpit. Concise display symbology was developed for use in later full-mission simulator evaluations of the CDTI concept. Experimental variables used included the update interval motion of the aircraft, the update type, (that is, whether the two aircraft were updated at the same update interval or not), the background (grid pattern or no background), and encounter type (straight or curved). Only the type of encounter affected performance.

TL;DR: This study proposes an approach to developing thermal models to estimate a data node’s outlet temperature based on its CPU and disk activities, and applies these models to study the impact of various thermal management strategies on energy efficiency.
Abstract: Thermal modeling and management techniques have been widely investigated in recent years. Prior studies show thermal management could increase energy efficiency of data centers. The thermal impacts of CPUs on data storage have been extensively studied; however, disk thermal models are still in their infancy. In our study, we aim at building thermal models that take into account both CPUs and disks. We propose an approach to developing thermal models to estimate a data node’s outlet temperature based on its CPU and disk activities. Integrating our thermal model into an energy consumption model, we can evaluate the total energy cost of a data center. We apply our models to study the impact of various thermal management strategies on energy efficiency.

01 Aug 2017TL;DR: This research provides analysis on the number of bikes and docks available at each station, bikes trips and station trips, bike user type, station demand, bikes revenue and trip-weather relation, all in real time.
Abstract: The paper proposes a system that analyzes Bike Sharing Systems (BSS) in five cities of San Francisco Bay Area using Big Data technologies and investigates the current conditions and future trends. This research provides analysis on the number of bikes and docks available at each station, bikes trips and station trips, bike user type, station demand, bikes revenue and trip-weather relation, all in real time. Moreover, the system also predicts the demand for bikes and trips at particular station at particular time by using four different regression algorithms. Hence, this study is relevant from both an academic and a practitioners perspective.
