TL;DR: The absence of nicking in the achiasmate diploid is not due to a lack of appropriate enzyme activity but seems to result from the fact that unpaired or ineffectively paired chromosome regions are not accessible to the enzyme.
Abstract: Achiasmate meiocytes of Lilium cv. Black Beauty do not undergo DNA nicking at pachytene, nor do they acquire the high level of R-protein during zygotene-pachytene that is characteristic of chiasmate types. Induction of tetraploidy in such meiocytes with its accompanying increase in chiasma frequency results in a pachytene nicking pattern that is indistinguishable from what occurs in chiasmate plants. R-protein also increases to a level that on a per diploid genome basis is at least as high, and probably higher, than the level of chiasmate diploids. The absence of nicking in the achiasmate diploid is not due to a lack of appropriate enzyme activity but seems to result from the fact that unpaired or ineffectively paired chromosome regions are not accessible to the enzyme. The regulation of R-protein level by homologous pairing is examined but remains poorly understood.

TL;DR: Pairing and chiasma formation in embryo sac mother cells were less sensitive to colchicine than in PMCs, but their behavior was otherwise similar.
Abstract: Chromosome pairing and chiasma frequency were studied in meiocytes at diakinesis of Lilium speciosum cv. “Rosemede” fixed up to 21 days after the start of either continuous or 3 day pulse colchicine treatment. The two treatments gave similar results. In pulse treated pollen mother cells (PMCs) the mean chiasma frequency per cell fell from 26.4 in controls to 8.5 after fourteen days while the mean number of univalents per cell increased from 0.05 to 17.58. There was a negative correlation between mean chiasma frequency per bivalent and per PMC in colchicine treated buds; univalents were preferentially induced in bivalents with one chiasma, and preferentially excluded in bivalents with 4 chiasmata. Some chiasmata were redistributed to surviving bivalents despite the concurrent reduction in chiasma frequency per meiocyte. — Colchicine sensitivity began in premeiotic interphase and extended to mid or late zygotene in PMCs; ongoing synapsis was unaffected. However, susceptibility to univalency was asynchronous between bivalents occurring at zygotene in short chromosomes but at late premeiotic interphase in the longest chromosomes. The number of chiasmata per bivalent could be altered by colchicine without inducing univalents, but the ultimate effect was to reduce the number of chiasmata per bivalent (or per chromosome arm) directly to zero. The major factors determining the order and extent of reduced pairing and chiasma number were total chromosome length and arm length. Pairing and chiasma formation in embryo sac mother cells were less sensitive to colchicine than in PMCs, but their behavior was otherwise similar.

TL;DR: Results demonstrate that the achiasmatic condition in “Black Beauty” is not due to a genie defect, and have made possible hitherto inaccessible biochemical analyses of meiocytes that had been treated with colchicine or other chemicals at premeiotic stages.
Abstract: Using colchicine, two methods have been successfully applied for the induction of tetraploid meiocytes at premeiotic mitosis in the near achiasmate diploid hybrid cultivar “Black Beauty” of Lilium. The experiments were aimed at understanding whether the achiasmate condition is attributable to insufficient homology for effective pairing or to some genie defect in order to interpret the data obtained from molecular studies. Cytological observations demonstrate a strong correlation between the induction of tetraploidy and subsequent chiasma formation. The chiasma frequency per cell in untreated diploid control meiocytes ranged from 0 to 8 (mean 2.25), while in colchicine treated undoubled cells sampled 14±2 days after the start of treatment it ranged from 0 to 2 (mean 0.148). By comparison, the chiasma frequency per cell in colchicine-doubled tetraploid cells ranged from 29 to 51 (mean 42.24), such cells showing complete or near complete bivalent pairing. These results, similar to those reported previously for other higher plant species, demonstrate that the achiasmatic condition in “Black Beauty” is not due to a genie defect. The methods developed have made possible hitherto inaccessible biochemical analyses of meiocytes that had been treated with colchicine or other chemicals at premeiotic stages.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the Passa Dois Group of the Parana Basin and excluded Irati Formation using outcrop and subsurface data and found three principal depositional systems: (1) a high destructive tide dominated delta system designated Serra do Espigao Delta System; (2) the Corumbatai tidal flat System developed in the northeastern of Sao Paulo State; and (3) the Serra Alta epeineritic shelf System.
Abstract: Regional investigation of the Passa Dois Group of the Parana Basin, excluded Irati Formation using outcrop and subsurface data indicates three principal depositional systems: (1) a high destructive tide dominated delta system designated Serra do Espigao Delta System; (2) the Corumbatai tidal flat System developed in the northeastern of Sao Paulo State: and (3) the Serra Alta epeineritic shelf System. The Serra do Espigao Delta System is te dominant element in the Santa Catarina and Parana States and comprises several deltas developed throughout the Upper Permian. Vertical sequence grades upward from Terezina prodelta muds through Serrinha delta front sands into fluvial sands and muds of the Morro Pelado delta plain. Such succession reflects regression and progradation of the system. Sediments were derived from South of Mato Grosso State carried by low gradient retilineous rivers. The deltas prograded from West to East over a shallow epicontinental sea opened at East in which was developed the muds of the extensive Serra Alta Shelf System. Prograding from north to south into the furthest end of the Serra Alta gulf a tidal flat was developed, behind of the Serra do Espigao deltas, supplied by longshore drift of sediments from the delta system. Principal features of the main depositional systems are shown in strike and dip stratigraphic sections and in isolith and distribution maps. These illustrate the relationship of the major systems and their constituent facies and also define the sedimentation geomorphic model of the Passa Dois Group.

TL;DR: Worker pupae of Apis mellifera ligustica and A. m.
Abstract: SummaryWorker pupae of Apis mellifera ligustica and A. m. adansonii (330 of each) were dissected, and their ovaries excised. For each race, the mean number of ovarioles in the right and left ovaries were significantly different; in both, the left ovary had more ovarioles than the right. Significant differences were found between races, and between samples of the same race, for number of ovarioles in the right (and in the left) ovary, and in both together. In all groupings, the mean numbers of ovarioles were significantly greater in A. m. ligustica than in A. m. adansonii.

Abstract: Resumo Os ovocitos de peixes teleosteos em fase pre-vitelogenica apresentam numerosos nucleolos localizados perifericamente no nucleo.

Phytotoxity evaluation for sugar cane and control of Digitaria sanguinalis, Colopogonio sp, Paspalum distichum and Wedellia paludosa, were made 47, 78 and 111 days after the applications. The results obtained showed that the treatments with hexazinone (945 g/ha) and hexazinone (719 g/ha) + diuron (2048 g/ha) presented statistic differences relating to yield, when compared to check, besides being effective in the weeds control. No treatment caused any alterations on tecnologic qualities of the sugar cane.

Abstract: The present paper describes the karyotype and plasma esterase isozymes in 10 species and one hybrid of Columbiformes. The genus Columba showed the greatest enzymatic polymorphism but was uniform as to the diploid chromosome number. Esterase data showed a high affinity among Leptotila, Geotrygon and Columba. Among Claravis, Columbina and Scardafella no variability in the electrophoretic patterns was found but a high chromosomal diversification was observed. These data enabled us to propose some modifications in the previously proposed phylogenetic relationships.

TL;DR: The Streptomyces aureofaciens extracellular proteolytic system was split into four fractions by carboxymethylcellulose column chromatography giving three purely caseinolytic fractions and one fraction active toward both starch and casein, which was found to be heterogeneous by polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis.
Abstract: The Streptomyces aureofaciens extracellular proteolytic system was split into four fractions by carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) column chromatography giving three purely caseinolytic fractions and one fraction active toward both starch and casein. The first caseinolytic and amylolytic fraction was further fractionated by DEAE-Sephadex A-50 chromatography into one purely amylolytic fraction and another showing both activities, was refractioned into four new fractions by DEAE-cellulose chromatography. These fractions were found to be heterogeneous by polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis, three of them acted on both starch and casein and a fourth was only caseinolytic. The second CMC fraction was further purified by CMC rechromatography to an homogeneous fraction that hydrolyzes carboxypeptidase A(EC 3.4.2.1) synthetic substrates and solubilizes elastin. It had only one polypeptide chain with a molecular weight of about 28000 daltons, a high thermal stability in the presence of calcium ions, a pH optimum of about 6.8, and a maximal caseinolytic activity at about 50°C.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors present a study on holomorphically significant properties of spaces of holomorphic germs and define the notion of G-spaces, which is a particular kind of locally convex spaces that embodies an extensive class of space of germs.
Abstract: Publisher Summary This chapter presents a study on holomorphically significant properties of spaces of holomorphic germs. The chapter presents several definitions and the main results. Let K be a compact set in a complex metrizable locally convex space X and Y a complex Banach space. The chapter is concerned with results furnishing information about the behavior of the space of holomorphic germs endowed with the Nachbin topology with relation to the following properties: “holomorphically bornological,” “holomorphically barelled,” “holomorphically infrabarelled,” “holomorphically Mackey,” “Monte1,” and “infra-Montel,” introduced in [N1], [N2], [M], [BMNl] and [BMN2]. The chapter uses the freely notations and terminology of [BMN2] and presents a brief review. The chapter introduces the polynomially significant properties, properties (D) and (D*) and hypoholomorphic and holomorphically semibornological spaces. The chapter presents that the holomorphically significant properties, can be expressed in terms of the polynomially significant properties and properties (D) and (D*). The chapter also introduces the definition of G-spaces that is a particular kind of locally convex spaces that embodies an extensive class of spaces of germs as and is presented with several examples.
