TL;DR: In this paper, an exploration of the different epistemic logics at work in research environments and of the expertise brought to bear on low doses is presented, based on an analysis of documents, participant observation in groups of experts, and a series of interviews, examining the cognitive support and techniques used by the actors, and the practicalities of what some of them have called a "paradigm shift".
Abstract: The issue of low doses already has a long history. Initially linked with radioactivity, it can be traced through a series of metrological controversies about the evaluation of health and environmental risks. Building on recent developments, including the increased public profile of endocrine disruptors, this article offers an exploration of the different epistemic logics at work in research environments and of the expertise brought to bear on low doses. Based on an analysis of documents, participant observation in groups of experts, and a series of interviews, it examines the cognitive support and techniques used by the actors, and the practicalities of what some of them have called a ‘paradigm shift’, leading to the redefinition of the concepts and tools of toxicology in the 21st century.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors lay the foundations of a new model inspired by recent developments at the intersection of social cognition, behavioral ecology, and developmental biology, and argue that the sense of agency is an important dimension to consider when characterizing self-disturbances in BPD.
Abstract: Self-disturbance is recognized as a key symptom of Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD). Although it is the source of significant distress and significant costs to society, it is still poorly specified. In addition, current research and models on the etiology of BPD do not provide sufficient evidence or predictions about who is at risk of developing BPD and self-disturbance, and why. The aim of this review is to lay the foundations of a new model inspired by recent developments at the intersection of social cognition, behavioral ecology, and developmental biology. We argue that the sense of agency is an important dimension to consider when characterizing self-disturbances in BPD. Second, we address the poorly characterized relation between self-disturbances and adverse life conditions encountered early in life. We highlight the potential relevance of Life-History Theory-a major framework in evolutionary developmental biology-to make sense of this association. We put forward the idea that the effect of early life adversity on BPD symptomatology depends on the way individuals trade their limited resources between competing biological functions during development.

TL;DR: In this paper, the convergence of European anti-Gypsy policies between the wars is examined, and the effects of these regulations on Romani families' future: the eroding of their social conditions and the endless exile to which some found themselves condemned.
Abstract: This article analyses the convergence of European anti-Gypsy policies between the wars. It Calls up for examination the attempts at rapprochement and the first stages of transnational collaboration before World War One, as well as the role played by cross-border movement in consolidating a stereotypical image of the "Gypsy" as a category. The failure of immigration control policies in the 1920s and the diplomatic crises occasioned by a number of notable incidents at the Franco-Belgian border led to an international agreement to put an end to movement that brought into question the sovereign order of nation states. A deeper analysis of these agreements and of the legal terms employed shows the application of particular police regulation in cases of specific families and a considerable investment on the part of the highest police authorities in the resolution of a what had become a national question. The final section analyses the effects of these regulations on Romani families' future: the eroding of their social conditions, and the endless exile to which some found themselves condemned.
