Abstract: BACKGROUND: The aim of this study was to determine the frequency of each poisoning and its related death in our center as a sample of Tehran in six consecutive years (2006 to 2011). METHODS: All poisoned children and adults referring to Loghman-Hakim hospital poison center and hospitalized in the study period were enrolled and evaluated. RESULTS: In 108,265 patients, the most common causes of poisoning were anti-epileptics and sedative-hypnotics (22.3%). The most common causes of death were pesticides (24.84%) and narcotics (24.75%). In drugs of abuse, opium was more prevalent in the early period of the study but was replaced by methadone later. CONCLUSION: It seems that national policies for drug control and prevention of suicide have not been efficient enough. We expect to see Iran in the first 50 countries with regard to suicide and to maintain the first place in narcotic abuse if enough attention is not provided. Language: en

Abstract: Background: Nursing is naturally a stressful job. Stress in nurses can cause depression, isolation from patients, absence and decrease in their qualification. This study aimed to determine the causes of job stress in nurses of Kashan, Iran. Materials and Methods : In this cross-sectional study, 189 nurses from Kashan hospitals of different wards were studied. The information collection tool was Occupational Stress Inventory-Revised™ (OSI-R™). Findings : The most important job stress aspects in female nurses were range of roles (48.4%), role duality (40.9%) and job environment (39.6%). In men, range of roles (57.5%), job environment (50%) and responsibility (45%) were the most significant aspects. In addition, lack of balance between skill and education and job environment requirements in both genders was the least important aspect of job stress. Conclusions: The results showed that the level of stress in most of the nurses was in medium level. Job factors were more involved in job stress than demographic and other factors. Abstract: There are several biocompatible and biodegradable biopolymers, which found tremendous medical and pharmaceutical applications and currently receiving unprecedented attention. Various microorganisms can synthesize a variety of these biopolymers such as polysaccharides, polyamides and polyesters, which could be used for development of new generation of drug carriers and tissue repairing materials. The size, charge, chemical structure and other physicochemical properties of bacterial biodegradable polymers represent a good compatibility in development of tissue scaffolds and also as delivery vehicles of therapeutic agents. Here, we highlight recent advances in engineering biopolymers derived from bacteria, especially for drug delivery and tissue engineering.
