TL;DR: The thickness of the hyperplastic cartilage layer appears significantly increased in condylar hyperplasia and the number of argyrophilic nucleolar organizer regions may be useful in histopathological identification of condylarshyperplasia.
Abstract: Objective The aim of this study was to compare normal and hyperplastic mandibular condyles using two different histopathologic staining techniques. Study design Nine cases of condylar hyperplasia and 13 normal cases were studied after hematoxylin and eosin and silver staining. Results There was a significant difference between the two groups in the thickness of the hyperplastic cartilage layer of condylar soft tissue (P = 0.017). Also, the number of argyrophilic nucleolar organizer regions was significantly higher in the condylar hyperplasia case group (P = 0.0001). No significant differences could be demonstrated in cartilage island frequency, penetration depth, and distribution in the cancellous bone of condyles. Conclusion The thickness of the hyperplastic cartilage layer appears significantly increased in condylar hyperplasia. In addition, argyrophilic nucleolar organizer region count may be useful in histopathological identification of condylar hyperplasia.

TL;DR: A novel two-step mild hyperthermia treatment with thermosensitive liposomes for the treatment of large and deep seated tumors, which are difficult to heat precisely and require loco-regional HT of the tumor area and accumulated Dox-sTSL therein to obtain a precise intratumoral drug delivery.

TL;DR: In this article, the feasibility of bisphenol A (BPA) adsorption from aqueous solutions by single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) and multi-weled carbon nanotsubes (MWCNT) was investigated in a batch system.
Abstract: Contamination of water resources by bisphenol A (BPA) is considered as a critical environmental problem. In this study, the feasibility of BPA adsorption from aqueous solutions by single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) and multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) was investigated in a batch system. In order to define the kinetic and isotherm of the reaction, specific experiments were performed at BPA concentrations of 5–50 and 2–50 mg/L, respectively. The BPA uptake by both adsorbents was found to be rapid; also, uptake reached to equilibrium in 60 min for all of the cases. The kinetic data of both adsorbents were also described by the saturation model (R2 > 0.99) as well as the pseudo-second-order rate equation (R2 > 0.99). Based on the saturation rate model, the maximum reaction rates (km) of BPA adsorption by the SWCNTs and MWCNTs were in the ranges of 0.023–0.089 mg/L min and 0.013–0.060 mg/L min, respectively. In the pH range of 3–11, the optimized condition of pH for BPA adsorption by both th...

TL;DR: The study results reveal an unfavourable trend towards a Westernized diet in the Middle East and, to a certain extent, in North Africa.
Abstract: Objective: Middle Eastern and North African countries are undergoing nutrition transition, a transition which is associated with an increased burden of noncommunicable diseases. This necessitates the evaluation of dietary patterns in these regions. The present study aimed to assess changes in dietary patterns in Middle Eastern and North African countries between 1961 and 2007. Design: Availability of energy and fifteen main food items during 1961‐2007 was examined using FAO food balance sheets from the FAOSTAT database. Setting: Fifteen countries including nine in the Middle East and six in North Africa were selected and the average availability of total energy and different food items in these regions were compared. Results: Over the 47 years studied, energy and food availability (apart from animal fats and alcoholic beverages) has increased in the Middle East and North Africa. In both regions the proportion of energy derived from meat and vegetable oils has increased significantly while that from cereals decreased significantly. In addition, the proportion of energy from milk and dairy products and vegetables has shown an ascending trend in North Africa while the proportion of energy from fruits has shown a descending trend in the Middle East. Conclusions: The study results reveal an unfavourable trend towards a Westernized diet in the Middle East and, to a certain extent, in North Africa. Tailored nutritional education encouraging healthy eating for prevention of the burden of chronic diseases in these countries seems essential.
