TL;DR: It is found that the magnetization of single-crystal SmFeO3 can be switched by temperature, and tuning the magnitude of applied magnetic field allows us to realize such spin switching even at room temperature.
Abstract: The prospect of controlling the magnetization (M) of a material is of great importance from the viewpoints of fundamental physics and future applications of emerging spintronics. A class of rare-earth orthoferrites RFeO3 (R is rare-earth element) materials exhibit striking physical properties of spin switching and magnetization reversal induced by temperature and/or applied magnetic field. Furthermore, due to the novel magnetic, magneto-optic and multiferroic properties etc., RFeO3 materials are attracting more and more interests in recent years. We have prepared and investigated a prototype of RFeO3 materials, namely SmFeO3 single-crystal. And we report magnetic measurements upon both field cooling (FC) and zero-field cooling (ZFC) of the sample, as a function of temperature and applied magnetic field. The central findings of this study include that the magnetization of single-crystal SmFeO3 can be switched by temperature and tuning the magnitude of applied magnetic field allows us to realize such spin switching even at room temperature.

TL;DR: In this paper, it has been found that aliovalent-substituted polycrystalline materials have significantly enhanced multiferroic properties, such as electric field induced polarization and remanent magnetization.
Abstract: It has been found that aliovalent-substituted $\mathrm{Bi}\mathrm{Fe}{\mathrm{O}}_{3}\text{\ensuremath{-}}\mathrm{Pb}\mathrm{Ti}{\mathrm{O}}_{3}$-based polycrystalline materials have significantly enhanced multiferroic properties. Relative to unmodified $\mathrm{Bi}\mathrm{Fe}{\mathrm{O}}_{3}$, our results for modified $\mathrm{Bi}\mathrm{Fe}{\mathrm{O}}_{3}\text{\ensuremath{-}}\mathrm{Pb}\mathrm{Ti}{\mathrm{O}}_{3}$-based ceramics reveal: (i) a dramatic increase in the electric-field-induced polarization; and (ii) the establishment of a remanent magnetization. The results evidence the destruction of a space-modulated spin structure in bulk materials, via substituent effects, releasing a latent magnetization locked within the cycloid.

TL;DR: This study investigated the essential and non-essential genes reported in a previous study and extracted gene ontology (GO) terms and biological pathways that are important for the determination of essential genes, and suggests that this study provides more functional and pathway information on the essential genes and provides a new way to investigate related problems.
Abstract: Identifying essential genes in a given organism is important for research on their fundamental roles in organism survival. Furthermore, if possible, uncovering the links between core functions or pathways with these essential genes will further help us obtain deep insight into the key roles of these genes. In this study, we investigated the essential and non-essential genes reported in a previous study and extracted gene ontology (GO) terms and biological pathways that are important for the determination of essential genes. Through the enrichment theory of GO and KEGG pathways, we encoded each essential/non-essential gene into a vector in which each component represented the relationship between the gene and one GO term or KEGG pathway. To analyze these relationships, the maximum relevance minimum redundancy (mRMR) was adopted. Then, the incremental feature selection (IFS) and support vector machine (SVM) were employed to extract important GO terms and KEGG pathways. A prediction model was built simultaneously using the extracted GO terms and KEGG pathways, which yielded nearly perfect performance, with a Matthews correlation coefficient of 0.951, for distinguishing essential and non-essential genes. To fully investigate the key factors influencing the fundamental roles of essential genes, the 21 most important GO terms and three KEGG pathways were analyzed in detail. In addition, several genes was provided in this study, which were predicted to be essential genes by our prediction model. We suggest that this study provides more functional and pathway information on the essential genes and provides a new way to investigate related problems.

TL;DR: A mixed-integer programming model is proposed to integrate the berth template and the yard template planning with the aim to minimize the service cost that is incurred by the deviation from vessels' expected turnaround time intervals, and the operation cost related to the route length of transshipment container flows in yard.
Abstract: This paper studies two tactical level decision problems arising in transshipment hubs: berth template planning that is concerned with allocating berths and quay cranes to arriving vessels, and yard template planning that is concerned with assigning yard storage locations to vessels. These two tactical level decisions interact with each other. A mixed-integer programming model is proposed to integrate the berth template and the yard template planning with the aim to minimize the service cost that is incurred by the deviation from vessels' expected turnaround time intervals, and the operation cost that is related to the route length of transshipment container flows in yard. Moreover, a heuristic algorithm is developed for solving the problem in large-scale realistic environments. Numerical experiments are conducted to prove the necessity of the proposed model and also validate the efficiency of the proposed heuristic algorithm. For a set of real-world like instances, the heuristic algorithm can obtain good berth and yard templates within a reasonable time.

TL;DR: In this paper, single-wall carbon nanotube/polyaniline (SWCNT/PANI) composites were prepared by a simple alcohol-assisted dispersion and pressing process.
Abstract: Single-wall carbon nanotube/polyaniline (SWCNT/PANI) and graphene sheet/polyaniline (GS/PANI) composites were prepared by a simple alcohol-assisted dispersion and pressing process. The SWCNTs and GSs were synthesized by the dc arc-discharge method. The dc electrical conductivity and the electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding effectiveness (SE) of these two kinds of composites were measured. The experimental results reveal that the conductivity and the EMI SE of the GS/PANI composite are better than that of the SWCNT/PANI composite, and the absorption proportion of the SWCNT/PANI composite is higher than that of the GS/PANI composite. The EMI shielding results (2–18 GHz) also show that both composites present an absorption-dominant mechanism and present a wide application prospect in the field of EMI shielding and microwave absorption.
