TL;DR: In this paper, a rate equation has been used to analyze the actively mode-locked diode laser which is biased with a subthreshold dc current upon which a sinusoidal signal, whose frequency is equal to the mode spacing (or its multiple) of the external cavity, is superimposed.
Abstract: A rate equation has been used to analyze the actively mode-locked diode laser which is biased with a subthreshold dc current upon which a sinusoidal signal, whose frequency is equal to the mode spacing (or its multiple) of the external cavity, is superimposed. Steady-state operation of the laser enables us to find out many important parameters of the system. Based upon the experimental observations, we have established the time evolution of the injection carrier density which suggests the existence of a subpulse following the main pulse and provides the possibility of predicting the time gap between them. Meanwhile, the average output power of the laser, the threshold condition of the mode-locked oscillator, the arrival time of the main pulse at the gain medium, the temporal difference between the main pulse, and the peak of the small-signal gain have also been derived.

TL;DR: In this article, the energy matrices of the strong-field terms SΓ of the d4 (d6) electron configuration in a crystal-field with C2v symmetry were established.
Abstract: In this article, we have established the energy matrices of the strong-field terms SΓ of the d4 (d6) electron configuration in a crystal-field with C2v symmetry. When we used this procedure to calculate the spin-forbidden absorption bands of Fe2+ in the M(2) site in orthopyroxene, we substituted the single-electron crystal-field energy levels (determined by the experimental results of the spinallowed spectrum) into the energy matrices instead of the single-electron crystal-field matrix elements. Thus, by means of only one parameter B (C=4B), most of the spin-forbidden bands of Fe2+ have been determined. Furthermore, when a similar treatment was made of the M(1) site of Ohsymmetry, the entire spin-forbidden spectrum of Fe2+ in orthopyroxenes could be semiquantitatively explained. This shows that the method is particularly useful for the calculation of spin-forbidden spectra of complexes with the d4 (d6) configuration in a low-symmetry site.

TL;DR: In this article, it was shown explicitly that the descent sequence of cocycles in a gauge group realizes the Cech-de Rham double complex, which corresponds to finite gauge transformations.
Abstract: This Letter shows explicitly that the descent sequence of cocycles in a gauge group realizes the Cech-de Rham double complex. Meanwhile the Cech complex corresponds to finite gauge transformations. This Letter also shows how the indices of each order of cocycles characterizes the obstructions on overlapping spheres in different dimensions and how these indices are equal to a common one.

TL;DR: In this paper, the Coulomb explosions in thin carbon foils of 2 MeV H+2, H+3, D+2 and D+3 molecular ion beams have been measured for the incident beam direction.
Abstract: Breakup fragment energy distributions from the Coulomb explosions in thin carbon foils of ~2 MeV H+2, H+3, D+2 and D+3 molecular ion beams have been measured for the incident beam direction. The energy distributions show H+3 and D+3 both to be triangular in shape. Mean values of intenuclear separations were extracted as (1.19 ± 0.03) A , (1.32 ± 0.03) A , (0.98 ± 0.02) A , and (0.93 ± 0.02) A respectively for H+2 D+2, H+3 and D+3. The H+2, and H+3 results are consistent with the previous values obtained at Argonne, Lyon and Rehovot.

Abstract: In this paper a new definition for probabilistic inner product spaces is given. By virtue of this definition, some convergence theorems, Schwarz inequality and the orthogonal concept for probabilistic inner product spaces are established and introduced. Moreover, the relationship between this kind of spaces and probabilistic normed spaces is considered also.

TL;DR: In this paper, a statistical method has been developed to treat the phase jitter between the laser pulse and the deflection signal and the amplitude jitter of the voltage of a synchroscan streak camera.
Abstract: A statistical method has been developed to treat the phase jitter between the laser pulse and the deflection Signal and the amplitude jitter of the deflection voltage of a synchroscan streak camera. Using normal distribution functions to model these random jitters, an expression for the recorded pulsewidth of a synchroscan streak camera has been obtained. With the aid of this expression, some experimental observations may be explained.

Abstract: By using the high resolution R-banding technique, the clear multiple bands in the amphibian chromosomes are successfully obtained. This R-band is one form of the Brdu-replicating bands, which is useful to identify all chromosomes and compare the chromosomes of different species of Amphibia. The karyotypes of two Rana species, R. nigromaculata and R. japonica japonica are shown by the present technique.

Abstract: An improved and simplified quadracomponent system for photoinduced hydrogen production is decribed. Investigations made with this system results in an optimum pH of the reaction medium and a suitable concentration of EDTA to produce hydrogen in a yield higher than that given previously in literature. Furthermore, the photoinduced reaction is found to be specific acid catalyzed.

TL;DR: In this article, two models, SLMO and ELMO, a set of parameters of LMO Fock matrix elements, and a technique called "Group Effect" are proposed to simulate the ab initio calculations on large molecules.
Abstract: The localized molecular orbitals of some saturated hydrocarbons and their derivatives have been formed using ab initio method and M. P. [1–2] localization procedure. Two models, SLMO and ELMO, a set of parameters of LMO Fock matrix elements, and a technique called “Group Effect” are proposed. Based on these, we developed a procedure to simulate the ab initio calculations on large molecules. Some test calculations have been done. The results are compared with those of the ab initio method. In general, absolute errors of orbital energies are about 10−3 a.u., and the relative errors of total energies are about 10−4. For the original applications, we applied this procedure to some large systems of alkane and their derivatives as well as three Crown-ether compounds. Satisfactory results are obtained.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors used CO2 and CO2 + Ar+ laser to achieve an etch rate of 10 A - 500 µm/sec and saooth, high quality surfaces.
Abstract: Dry etching of fused SiO2 in the presence of several etchants using CO2 and CO2 + Ar+ lasers yields controlled, rapid removal rates of 10 A○ - 500 µm/sec and saooth, high quality surfaces. Etching occurs mainly by thermal ablation of SiO2 due to strong CO2 laser absorption. The addition of the Ar+ laser, which is absorbed by Br2 etchant to yield Br atoms, increases the etch rate as a result of a combination of photochemical and gas-phase heating effects.

TL;DR: In this paper, the elemental contents in ovary and testis of the giant panda and the lesser panda are calculated by means of yttrium as an internal standard, and relative concentrations are calculated from peak areas in the spectra for thick samples.
Abstract: In order to search for the significance of artificial feeding, reproduction and heredity, trace elements in the reproductive systems of some rare animals, including giant panda, lesser panda, marmot and river deer, have been determined. Typcial X-ray spectra of various samples are given. The elemental contents in ovary and testis of the giant panda and the lesser panda are calculated by means of yttrium as an internal standard. Elemental relative concentrations are calculated from peak areas in the spectra for thick samples. It is found that for the concentration of the elements Cr, Mn, Fe, Ni, Cu, As in the ovary there exist no significant different between the giant panda and the lesser panda. The concentration of Zn, however, shows a remakable difference. The importance of zinc in biological processes is discussed.
