TL;DR: The prevalence of hypertension in China is increasing and the trend of an increase in prevalence is striking in young people and rural populations, especially in emerging populations.
Abstract: Aims
The present study aimed to assess the prevalence of hypertension among Chinese adults.
Methods
Data were obtained from sphygmomanometer measurements and a questionnaire administered to 46239 Chinese adults ≥20 years of age who participated in the 2007–2008 China National Diabetes and Metabolic Disorders Study. Hypertension was defined as blood pressure ≥140/90 mm Hg or use of antihypertensive medication.
Results
A total of 26.6% of Chinese adults had hypertension, and a significantly greater number of men were hypertensive than women (29.2% vs 24.1%, p<0.001). The age-specific prevalence of hypertension was 13.0%, 36.7%, and 56.5% among persons aged 20 to 44 years (young people), 45 to 64 years (middle-aged people), and ≥65 years (elderly people), respectively. In economically developed regions, the prevalence of hypertension was significantly higher among rural residents than among urban residents (31.3% vs 29.2%, p = 0.001). Among women or individuals who lived in the northern region, the disparity in the prevalence of hypertension between urban and rural areas disappeared (women: 24.0% vs. 24.0%, p = 0.942; northern region: 31.6% vs. 31.2%, p = 0.505). Among hypertensive patients, 45.0% were aware of their condition, 36.2% were treated, and 11.1% were adequately controlled.
Conclusions
The prevalence of hypertension in China is increasing. The trend of an increase in prevalence is striking in young people and rural populations. Hypertension awareness, treatment, and control are poor. Public health efforts for further improving awareness and enhancing effective control are urgently needed in China, especially in emerging populations.

TL;DR: It is shown that the m6A methyltransferase Mettl3 ensures translational efficiency of the mesenchymal stem cell lineage allocator Pth1r, promoting osteogenesis and protecting from osteoporosis.
Abstract: N6-methyladenosine (m6A) is the most abundant epigenetic modification in eukaryotic mRNAs and is essential for multiple RNA processing events during mammalian development and disease control. Here we show that conditional knockout of the m6A methyltransferase Mettl3 in bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) induces pathological features of osteoporosis in mice. Mettl3 loss-of-function results in impaired bone formation, incompetent osteogenic differentiation potential and increased marrow adiposity. Moreover, Mettl3 overexpression in MSCs protects the mice from estrogen deficiency-induced osteoporosis. Mechanistically, we identify PTH (parathyroid hormone)/Pth1r (parathyroid hormone receptor-1) signaling axis as an important downstream pathway for m6A regulation in MSCs. Knockout of Mettl3 reduces the translation efficiency of MSCs lineage allocator Pth1r, and disrupts the PTH-induced osteogenic and adipogenic responses in vivo. Our results demonstrate the pathological outcomes of m6A mis-regulation in MSCs and unveil novel epitranscriptomic mechanism in skeletal health and diseases.

TL;DR: The results indicate that porous β-TCP can induce bone formation in soft tissues of dogs; while the rapid dissolution of the ceramic and the higher local Ca2+, PO43- concentration due to the rapid disintegration of α- TCP may resist bone Formation in α-TCp and the less rapid dissolve of β-tcP may be detrimental to already formed bone in β-PCP.
Abstract: Two kinds of tri-calcium phosphate ceramics (Ca/P = 1.50), alpha-TCP and beta-TCP, which has the same macrostructure and microstructure, but different phase composition, were implanted in dorsal muscles of dogs. The samples were retrieved at 30, 45 and 150 days, respectively, after implantation, and were analyzed histologically. There were critically different tissue responses between alpha-TCP ceramic and beta-TCP ceramic. Higher cell populations were observed inside the pores of beta-TCP than those of alpha-TCP, bone tissue was found in beta-TCP at 45 and 150 days, but no bone formation could be detected in any alpha-TCP implants in this study. On the other hand, the bone tissue in beta-TCP seemed to degenerate at 150 days. The results indicate that porous beta-TCP can induce bone formation in soft tissues of dogs; while the rapid dissolution of the ceramic and the higher local Ca2+, PO(4)3- concentration due to the rapid dissolution of alpha-TCP may resist bone formation in alpha-TCP and the less rapid dissolution of beta-TCP may be detrimental to already formed bone in beta-TCP.

TL;DR: In this paper, emergency decision making for natural disasters plays an increasingly significant role in improving the capability to respond disasters, and an overview of the EDM theory and methods of natural disasters from the methodological perspective.
Abstract: With the increasing trend of global warming, the frequent occurrences of natural disasters have brought serious challenges to the sustainable development of the society. Therefore, emergency decision making (EDM) for natural disasters plays an increasingly significant role in improving the capability to respond disasters. In this paper, we first elaborate the concept and characteristics of EDM for natural disasters and briefly expound emergency decision contents in different stages of natural disasters. Then, an overview is provided for the EDM theory and methods of natural disasters from the methodological perspective. After that, we give a detailed illustration of the construction of emergency decision support system. Finally, we summarize the main conclusions of the paper and point out the prospect of future researches.
