Abstract: Mossbauer measurements as a function of temperature are presented for three synthetic 57Fe-enriched polycrystalline samples of FeS in the composition region near stoichiometry. The independence of the Morin and α-transitions, previously concluded from neutron diffraction measurements, has been verified. A low-temperature transition has been found near 200 °K. It appears necessary to postulate the existence of a reversible, crystallographic two-phase region between the α-transition and about 200 °K in order to explain the Mossbauer measurements. This hypothesis also seems to provide a logical explanation of several anomalies in FeS. Es wird uber die Temperaturabhangigkeit des Mosbauer-Spektrums fur drei verschiedene polykristalline, mit 57Fe angereicherte synthetische FeS-Proben nahezu stochiometrischer Zusammensetzung berichtet. Die Unabhangigkeit der Morin- und α-Ubergange, die schon fruher aus Neutronen-Beugungsergebnissen geschlossen wurde, konnte bestatigt werden. Es wurde ein Ubergang bei 200 °K gefunden. Die Mosbauer-Untersuchungen weisen auf ein breites, reversibles, kristallographisches Zweiphasengebiet zwischen dem α-Ubergang und ungefahr 200 °K hin. Die Existenz dieses Uberganges ermoglicht die Deutung mehrerer Anomalien im FeS-System.

Abstract: Ionic conductivity measurements are made on single crystals of CsCl doped with Rb+, K+, and Br−. The results indicate that small concentrations of these monovalent ions have a marked effect on the activation energies in the NaCl and the CsCl phases and also on the hysteresis behaviour. It is shown that the decrease of the activation energies in crystals doped with Rb+ and K+ and the independence of these energies of the Br− content, can be described in terms of the size of the ions. The decrease of the pre-exponential factor in crystals doped with K+ or Rb+ is probably due to a change in the frequency spectrum of the lattice vibrations. An CsCl-Einkristallen mit eingebauten Rb+-, K+- oder Br−-Ionen wurden Ionenleitfahigkeitsmessungen durchgefuhrt. Die Mesergebnisse weisen darauf hin, das kleine Zusatze dieser einwertigen Fremdionen einen merklichen Effekt auf die Aktivierungsenergien der NaCl- und der CsCl-Struktur und auf die Hysteresis im Ubergangsgebiet ausuben. Es wird gezeigt, das die Abnahme der Aktivierungsenergien in mit Rb+ oder K+ dotierten Kristallen und die Unabhangigkeit dieser Energien von der Br− Konzentration sich als ein Effekt der Ionenradien interpretieren lassen. Die Abnahme des pre-exponentiellen Faktors in Kristallen mit eingebauten K+ oder Rb+ wird wahrscheinlich durch eine Anderung des Frequenzspektrums der Gitterschwingungen verursacht.

Abstract: In order to analyse the effect of many-particle excitations on the indirect interaction between nuclear or ionic spins the fourth order contribution to the ground state energy is calculated. This contribution appears to be divergent. This is due to the fact that the contributions of the disconnected diagrams and the irregular part of the fourth order operator do not cancel each other, which is a consequence of the commutator properties of angular momentum operators. It is therefore concluded that the derivation of the R.K.K.Y. interaction on the basis of Rayleigh-Schrodinger perturbation theory is of doubtful validity. Um den Einflus von Mehrteilchenanregungen auf die indirekte Wechselwirkung zwischen Kern- und Ionenspins zu analysieren, wurde der Beitrag vierter Ordnung zur Energie des Grundzustands berechnet. Dieser Beitrag scheint divergent zu sein. Dies wird durch die Tatsache hervorgerufen, das die Beitrage der getrennten Diagramme und der irregularen Teile des Operators vierter Ordnung sich gegenseitig nicht aufheben, was eine Folge der Vertauschungseigenschaften des Drehimpulsoperators ist. Es wird deshalb geschlossen, das die Ableitung der R.K.K.Y.-Wechselwirkung auf der Basis der Rayleigh-Schrodinger-Storungstheorie sehr unsicher ist.

Abstract: The perturbation expansion is obtained for a free electron gas interacting with a nuclear or ionic spin system via a ferromagnetic s—f-interaction. No divergent terms appear in the expansion if the unperturbed ground state of the system is assumed to consist of a polarized electron gas and a ferromagnetic spin system. This assumption is made plausible by considering the diagonal part of the perturbation and minimizing the resultant energy with respect to both the polarization of the electron and the structure of the spin system. In this way an energy up to second order in J is also obtained, and this is lower than the R.K.K.Y. result for a ferromagnetic spin system. No corrections to the magnetization of the spin system appear up to first order in J. Es wird gezeigt, das keine divergierenden Terme in der Storungsentwicklung fur ein freies Elektronengas, das mit einem Kern- oder Ionenspinsystem uber eine s—f-Kopplung wechselwirkt, auftreten. wenn man annimmt. das der ungestorte Grundzustand des Systems aus einem polarisierten Elektronengas und einem ferromagnetischen Spinsystem besteht. Diese Annahme wird plausibel gemacht durch die Berucksichtigung der diagonalen Anteile der Storung und Minimalisierung der resultierenden Energie in bezug auf die Polarisation des Elektronengases sowie die Struktur des Spinsystems. Auf diese Weise wird auch eine Energie bis zur zweiten Ordnung in J erhalten die kleiner als das R.K.K.Y.-Ergebnis fur ein ferromagnetisches Spinsystem ist. Zur Magnetisierung des Spinsystems treten bis zur ersten Ordnung in J keine Korrekturen auf.

Abstract: A doubly symmetric hole having parts of three intersecting circles as its boundary is suitable as a stress concentrator in the investigations of the fatigue properties of materials. Using Homalite 100 as the model material, a series of photoelastic experiments was made to determine the stress concentration factors at such hole in finite strips under tension. The results were compared with those calculated from a semiempirical equation suggested by Mitchell and other experimental results.

Abstract: Diffusion of zinc into GaAs in the presence of excess arsenic vapour in the temperature range 850–950°C. has been studied for GaAs laser diodes. In all the experiments zinc and arsenic were taken in the ratio 1:10 as source. The junction delineation methods for obtaining the p-n junction depth are also discussed. The results obtained are compared with those reported using ZnAs2.
