TL;DR: In this article, the spin nature of the states at the top of the valence band in Nd2CuO4 and Nd1.85Ce0.15cuO4-delta has been investigated with spin polarized resonant photoemission, showing that the parent compound of this electron doped superconductor is similar to the parent compounds of hole doped cuprate superconductors.
Abstract: The spin nature of the states at the top of the valence band in Nd2CuO4 and Nd1.85Ce0.15CuO4-delta has been investigated with spin polarized resonant photoemission. A clear Zhang-Rice singlet state is observed at the top of the valence band in the undoped compound showing that the parent compound of this electron doped superconductor is similar to the parent compounds of hole doped cuprate superconductors. Upon doping, the stability of the singlet is destroyed and the optimum doped compound Nd1.85Ce0.15CuO4-delta does not display any well-separated singlet state. These results indicate that hole contribution to the superconductivity in this system is not important in contrast to what has previously been suggested on the bases of transport measurements.

TL;DR: A detailed analysis of photo-luminescence spectroscopy (PL) on undoped and Te-and Zn-doped samples of high-quality GaSb is presented in this article.
Abstract: A detailed analysis of PhotoLuminescence spectroscopy (PL) on undoped and Te- and Zn-doped samples of high-quality GaSb is presented. Temperature variations of PL peak position and intensity have been used to find the origin of various transitions. The PL peaks of undoped samples have been assigned to unintentional impurities, native defects and excitons bound to the defect. The zinc- and tellurium-related peaks have been identified and the effect of doping concentration on their position and PL efficiency have been studied.

TL;DR: In this article, a spin-resolved circularly polarized 2p (L-3) resonant photoemission technique was used to measure the local Ni 3d spin polarization, not only below but also above the Curie temperature.
Abstract: We report the measurement of the local Ni 3d spin polarization, not only below but also above the Curie temperature (T-C), using the newly developed spin-resolved circularly polarized 2p (L-3) resonant photoemission technique. The experiment identifies the presence of 3d(8) singlets at high energies and 3d(8) triplets at low energies extending all the way to the Fermi energy, both below and above T-C, showing that it is the orbital degeneracy of the 3d band and the Hund's rule splitting which is of utmost importance to understand Ni and other 3d ferromagnets.

TL;DR: In this paper, the structural phase transitions have been correlated with piezoelectric properties, which is attributed to the coexistence of rhombohedral and tetragonal phases and is confirmed by Raman spectroscopy.
Abstract: Lead free piezoelectrics [1-x{(Bi0.96La0.04)0.5Na0.5TiO3}−x(Ba0.90Ca0.10TiO3)] (BLNT-BCT) with compositions x ≤ 0.20 have been synthesized by a semi-wet route and the compositions around the MPB region have been systematically investigated using x-ray diffraction and Raman spectroscopy. X-ray diffraction analysis confirms phase formation without any traces of secondary phases. Rietveld refinement of x-ray diffraction data revealed different structural symmetry for a different range of compositions viz., (i) rhombohedral (R3c) [x ≤ 0.08] (ii) rhombohedral (R3c) + tetragonal (P4mm) (MPB) [0.10 ≤ x ≤ 0.15] (iii) tetragonal (P4mm) [0.15 < x ≤ 0.20], which is confirmed by Raman spectroscopy. The structural phase transitions have been correlated with piezoelectric properties and the composition with x = 0.12 depicts better piezoelectric properties amongst studied compositions, which is attributed to the coexistence of rhombohedral and tetragonal phases.
