Abstract: A method for manufacturing rotary ball display devices wherein a plurality of such balls are provided with a coating of a color different from the remainder of the ball, the ball members are coated with a thin coating insoluble in the settling medium into which they are introduced, so that upon settling into a low viscosity liquid, they form a uniform layer. A high molecular weight hardenable coating material which is soluble in the low viscosity liquid is then poured onto the coated ball members to cover the layer. Then, the low viscosity liquid is removed and the hardenable coating material is caused to harden. The thin coating is then dissolved away from portions of the ball members to leave cavity portions thereabout into which a high resistivity liquid is introduced. The resulting ball members have a refractive index on the colored layer which is substantially the same as the refractive index of the high resistivity liquid contained in the cavities.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors propose a method for PCM signal recording in which, when single-channel or multichannel PCM signals are recorded so that one-channel PCMs are recorded in plural recording tracks, the input PCMs of one channel are correspondingly distributed to the plural recordings with at least one word as a unit, and in which the distributed plural signals are subjected to an encoding operation independently of one another and are recorded on the singular recording tracks.
Abstract: Described is a method for PCM signal recording in which, when single-channel or multichannel PCM signals are recorded so that one-channel PCM signals are recorded in plural recording tracks, the input PCM signals of one channel are correspondingly distributed to the plural recording tracks with at least one word as a unit, and in which the distributed plural signals are subjected to an encoding operation independently of one another and are recorded on the plural recording tracks. In distributing the input PCM signals by word units, word groups consisting of a predetermined number of consecutive words are sequentially distributed to the recording tracks, or plural consecutive words equal in number to the number of recording tracks are distributed to the tracks. In encoding, the input words are separated as a function of whether the input word numbers are odd or even, and the words thus separated are subjected to time delaying or interleaving operations, after which the odd and even number words are synthesized.

TL;DR: In this article, a current mirror circuit, formed of an input transistor and an output transistor with first current-carrying electrodes joined together to a voltage reference point and with control electrodes connected together, amplifies the signal current.
Abstract: Solid-state image pickup apparatus, such as an MOS imager, has a two-dimensional array of picture element units each formed of a photo sensitive element and a gating element, and scanning circuits for supplying horizontal and vertical scanning pulses. The picture unit elements in turn discharge a signal charge onto vertical and horizontal transmitting lines in response to the vertical and horizontal scanning pulses. Then, a resulting signal current is used to develop an output video signal. In order to provide a strong output video signal with a good S/N ratio, a current mirror circuit, formed of an input transistor and an output transistor with first current-carrying electrodes joined together to a voltage reference point and with control electrodes joined together, amplifies the signal current. A second current-carrying electrode of the input transistor receives a constant current from a current source and also receives the signal current. The output transistor has a second current-carrying electrode connected to an output load. Another current source can be connected to the output transistor so that only AC current will flow to the output load. The output load can be a load capacitor associated with a pre-charging transistor, or can be a serial charge transfer device.

TL;DR: In this paper, a tracking servocontrol circuit for optical reproducing is described, which consists of a signal generator for generating a tracking error signal representing the tracking error in respect of a light beam scanning the record track on a record medium from which a reproduced information signal is obtained.
Abstract: A tracking servocontrol circuit for use in an optical reproducing apparatus comprises a signal generator for generating a tracking error signal representing a tracking error in respect of a light beam scanning the record track on a record medium from which a reproduced information signal is obtained. A servocontrol amplifier is supplied with the tracking error signal and produces a drive signal in response to the tracking error signal. The drive signal is supplied to a driving device for tracking servocontrol. A defect detector detects a variation in the reproduced information signal resulting from a defect on the recorded surface of the record medium, and a control circuit reduces the gain of the servocontrol amplifier when a predetermined detection output is obtained from the defect detector. This prevents the drive signal supplied to the driving device from being harmfully affected by the defect on the recorded surface of the record medium.

TL;DR: In this article, a cyclic redundancy check (CRC) code is used to detect errors for which error pointers are generated during recording and during playback, and the reproduced data is read into memories (3,4) in accordance with generated addresses and the pointers prevent the writing in of words found to be in error.
Abstract: In the recording/reproducing of digital audio signals, errors are detected and corrected by using two parity words, one arranged at the center of the block formed of data words and the arranged at one end of the block. The probability that uncorrectable error will be present in the center of the block is relatively high, so placing the parity word there prevents loss of the more valuable data. Maximum correctable burst errors are determined by the length of the block, so placing the other parity word on the end of the block lengthens it and improves burst error correction. The parity words are arranged as indicated before adding a cyclic redundancy check (CRC) code to the data signal and then modulation coding the signal before recording. During playback, the reproduced signal is demodulated and the CRC code used to detect errors for which error pointers are generated. The reproduced data is read into memories (3,4) in accordance with generated addresses and the pointers prevent the writing in of words found to be in error, which error words are subsequently corrected if possible using parity codes originally encoded into the signals prior to recording.

Abstract: A method of error correction comprises error correction coding processing and interleaving and de-interleaving processings for digital subcoding data (as opposed to main data) in subchannels (as opposed to the main channel) to be transmitted. Apparatus is provided comprising means for performing those processings. The method comprises the steps of dividing digital subcoding data in one PACKET into a plurality of PACKs; adding a first redundant code for error detection or error correction to each of the PACKs; and interleaving the digital subcoding data in each of the PACKs and the first redundant code; whereby the interleaved data is transmitted together with frame sync signals and main data. The data in the subchannels is coded and interleaved and then recorded so that the distances between the data are maximized. Therefore, if errors should occur, the interpolation can be properly done, thereby improving the error correcting ability without requiring complicated error correction circuit or large buffer memory such as those required for the data in the main channel.
