TL;DR: In this article, a spin torque transfer magnetization switching (STS) based nonvolatile memory called spin-RAM was presented for the first time, which is based on magnetization reversal through an interaction of a spin momentum-torque-transferred current and a magnetic moment of memory layers in magnetic tunnel junctions (MTJ).
Abstract: A novel nonvolatile memory utilizing spin torque transfer magnetization switching (STS), abbreviated spin-RAM hereafter, is presented for the first time The spin-RAM is programmed by magnetization reversal through an interaction of a spin momentum-torque-transferred current and a magnetic moment of memory layers in magnetic tunnel junctions (MTJs), and therefore an external magnetic field is unnecessary as that for a conventional MRAM This new programming mode has been accomplished owing to our tailored MTJ, which has an oval shape of 100 times 150 nm The memory cell is based on a 1-transistor and a 1-MTJ (ITU) structure The 4kbit spin-RAM was fabricated on a 4 level metal, 018 mum CMOS process In this work, writing speed as high as 2 ns, and a write current as low as 200 muA were successfully demonstrated It has been proved that spin-RAM possesses outstanding characteristics such as high speed, low power and high scalability for the next generation universal memory

TL;DR: In this article, the authors present an apparatus and a method for realizing the presentation of a content list and the reproduction of content in accordance with proper user preference on the basis of date and time at which content is viewed.
Abstract: The present invention is intended to provide an apparatus and a method for realizing the presentation of a content list and the reproduction of content in accordance with proper user preference on the basis of date and time at which content is viewed. Content preference values that change with time are computed. On the basis of the computed content preference values, a content list is generated for presentation to the user. For example, preference values are computed on the basis of daily time zone, holiday, weekday, and day-of-the-week and a content list in accordance with the computed preference values is generated for presentation to the user. The novel configuration allows the presentation of an optimum content list on the basis of date and time at which content is viewed, thereby realizing the selection and viewing of content that properly reflects user preference.

Abstract: When the encrypted content is provided from a service provider to a user device, a usage log including information of the content usage fee is created in the user device. The created usage log is then sent to the service provider. The service provider compares the content usage fee in the received usage log with a predetermined threshold. If the content usage fee is found to exceed the predetermined threshold, the service provider requests a clearing center to inquire about the electronic money balance of the user. If it is determined that it seems difficult to collect money from the user, the transmission of a content key to the user is suspended. The clearing center also creates an issue log in which the effective period and an allowable amount of money spent by the user are set, and performs settlement processing only when the payment of the content usage fee has been made within the effective period.

TL;DR: A fast and robust approach to the detection and tracking of moving objects based on using lines computed by a gradient-based optical flow and an edge detector and each tracked object has a state for handling occlusion and interference.
Abstract: We propose a fast and robust approach to the detection and tracking of moving objects. Our method is based on using lines computed by a gradient-based optical flow and an edge detector. While it is known among researchers that gradient-based optical flow and edges are well matched for accurate computation of velocity, not much attention is paid to creating systems for detecting and tracking objects using this feature. In our method, extracted edges by using optical flow and the edge detector are restored as lines, and background lines of the previous frame are subtracted. Contours of objects are obtained by using snakes to clustered lines. Detected objects are tracked, and each tracked object has a state for handling occlusion and interference. The experimental results on outdoor-scenes show fast and robust performance of our method. The computation time of our method is 0.089 s/frame on a 900 MHz processor.

TL;DR: In this paper, an integrated DSS/WebTV receiver is communicatively connected to an Internet service provider, a DSS service provider and a local broadcast station to provide a display of DSS programs, Internet web sites and local broadcast channels in a seamless fashion.
Abstract: An integrated DSS/WebTV receiver is communicatively connected to an Internet service provider, a DSS service provider, and (optionally) a local broadcast station to provide a display of DSS programs, Internet web sites, and local broadcast channels in a seamless fashion. The DSS/WebTV receiver downloads graphic images, corresponding to DSS programs, from a DSS communication medium or the Internet into a local memory. The graphic images are periodically updated by the DSS service provider or Internet service provider. The DSS/WebTV receiver generates a graphical user interface (GUI), displayed on a television screen, for facilitating a user's navigation through the DSS, Internet, and local broadcast data. The GUI includes a selectable DSS program listing that displays DSS programs that are currently being broadcast or that will be broadcasted in the future. If a user selects a currently broadcasted program, the DSS/WebTV receiver displays the selected program on the television. If the user selects a program that is broadcasted in the future, the DSS/WebTV receiver displays a downloaded graphic image, corresponding to the selected program, on the television. The graphic image may be the selected program's name or logo, still shots from the selected program, short video clips related to the selected program, or advertisements related to the selected program.

TL;DR: This paper describes a system for autonomously evolving dynamic gaits on two of Sony's quadruped robots and shows the evolution of robust dynamic Gaits, one of which is used on the ERS-110, the first consumer version of AIBO.
Abstract: A challenging task that must be accomplished for every legged robot is creating the walking and running behaviors needed for it to move. In this paper we describe our system for autonomously evolving dynamic gaits on two of Sony's quadruped robots. Our evolutionary algorithm runs on board the robot and uses the robot's sensors to compute the quality of a gait without assistance from the experimenter. First, we show the evolution of a pace and trot gait on the OPEN-R prototype robot. With the fastest gait, the robot moves at over 10 m/min, which is more than forty body-lengths/min. While these first gaits are somewhat sensitive to the robot and environment in which they are evolved, we then show the evolution of robust dynamic gaits, one of which is used on the ERS-110, the first consumer version of AIBO.

Abstract: Provided is a nitride semiconductor having a larger low-defective region on a surface thereof, a semiconductor device using the nitride semiconductor, a method of manufacturing a nitride semiconductor capable of easily reducing surface defects in a step of forming a layer through lateral growth, and a method of manufacturing a semiconductor device manufactured by the use of the nitride semiconductor. A seed crystal portion is formed into stripes on a substrate with a buffer layer sandwiched therebetween. Then, a crystal is grown from the seed crystal portion in two steps of growth conditions to form a nitride semiconductor layer. In a first step, a low temperature growth portion having a trapezoidal-shaped cross section in a layer thickness direction is formed at a growth temperature of 1030° C., and in a second step, lateral growth predominantly takes place at a growth temperature of 1070° C. Then, a high temperature growth potion is formed between the low temperature growth portions. Thereby, hillocks and lattice defects can be reduced in a region of the surface of the nitride semiconductor layer above the low temperature growth portion.
