24 Jun 1993TL;DR: In this paper, picture-signal encoding methods and systems for encoding interlaced scan picture signals are described. But decoding methods and decoding methods for decoding the encoded signals are not discussed.
Abstract: Picture-signal encoding methods and systems are disclosed for encoding interlaced scan picture signals. A first one of a pair of interlaced odd and even fields of one frame, as well as a field of another frame are encoded. The second one of the pair of interlaced odd and even fields is encoded such that at least a portion is encoded through bidirectional prediction from three fields. Decoding methods and systems are disclosed for decoding the picture-signal encoded as described above. Record media storing the encoded signals are also disclosed.

29 Nov 1985TL;DR: In this article, a television signal receiving apparatus with a program schedule display function is provided, which includes a tuner, a TV signal processing circuit connected to the tuner and a switch connected to a digital signal processing (DSP) circuit for selectively generating a local program schedule signal based on the Standard Time selected by the switch.
Abstract: A television signal receiving apparatus is provided having a program schedule display function. The apparatus includes a tuner, a television signal processing circuit connected to the tuner, a digital signal processing circuit connected to the tuner for generating a program schedule display signal based on program schedule data obtained through the tuner, and a switch connected to the digital signal processing circuit for selectively generating a local program schedule display signal based on the Standard Time selected by the switch.

TL;DR: In this article, a system and method for synchronizing interactive content with particular scenes in a television program for use with an interactive television system is presented, which enables the user to enter responses to program-related questions from a question pool.
Abstract: A system and method for synchronizing interactive content with particular scenes in a television program for use with an interactive television system. An HTML page (701) displays both the television program and interactive functionality which allows the presentation to the user of specific information, such as facts and observations, which is synchronized to and interrelated with particular content within the television program. The system and method enables the user to enter responses to program-related questions from a question pool (703) and can be utilized for implementing a rewards-based user-interactive viewing experience. The system and method also enables an advertiser to synchronize advertisements to particular scenes within a television program, thus allowing the advertiser to tie products to the program the user is viewing.

09 Jul 2015TL;DR: In this article, the authors proposed a method to enable correct stream reception to take place at the receiving end, in a manner accurately adapted to dynamic changes in delivered content, by using identifying information for identifying the first mode and the second mode is inserted into the video stream.
Abstract: The purpose of the present invention is to enable correct stream reception to take place at the receiving end, in a manner accurately adapted to dynamic changes in delivered content. In a first transmission mode, a predetermined number of extended video streams constituting scalable-coded image data, and respectively including a basic video stream that includes lowest-layer image data, and image data of layers other than the lowest layer. In a second transmission mode, only the basic video stream that includes basic image data is transmitted. Identifying information for identifying the first mode and the second mode is inserted into the video stream. At the receiving end, the transmission mode can be easily ascertained, making it possible for correct stream reception to take place in a manner accurately adapted to changes in the stream composition, that is, dynamic changes in delivered content.
