TL;DR: In this paper, the authors propose a method and apparatus for protecting privacy in power line communication (PLC) networks, where data transmitted on a PLC network is encrypted according to a network key and can be properly received only by registered devices that have the proper network ID and network key value.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for protecting privacy in power line communication (PLC) networks. Data transmitted on a PLC network is encrypted according to a network key and can be properly received only by registered devices that have the proper network ID and network key value so that proper decryption can be performed. According to the invention a streaming media device is provided with a compatible network ID and network key during a registration process facilitated by coupling the device (applicant) to a direct power line connection associated with another device (administrator). The network key, and optionally network ID, are then shared over the direct connection without being distributed over the PLC network at large. By way of example, the data is prevented from being distributed across the PLC network in response to using selectable filtering of PLC data, and preferably a secure data communication mechanism, such as public-private key encoding.

TL;DR: In this article, a method to enable multiple TV viewers in discrete physical and/or temporal locations, to share the TV viewing experience by using audio and visual comments triggered by a remote control in conjunction with a TV which may be connected to one or more other TVs.
Abstract: A method to enable multiple TV viewers in discrete physical and/or temporal locations, to share the TV viewing experience by using audio and/or visual comments triggered by a remote control in conjunction with a TV which may be connected to one or more other TVs. The connection may be wireless (such as IEEE 802.11, Bluetooth, etc.) or wired means (such as POTS line, Ethernet cabling, coax cabling, etc.). The TVs may furthermore communicate directly with each other on a peer-to-peer basis or via an intermediary server(s). Alternate embodiments permit time-shifting comments.

TL;DR: In this paper, a physical information acquisition method in which a corresponding wavelength region of visible light with at least one visible light detection unit coupled to an image signal processing unit is detected.
Abstract: A physical information acquisition method in which a corresponding wavelength region of visible light with at least one visible light detection unit coupled to an image signal processing unit is detected, each said visible light detection unit comprising a color filter adapted to transmit the corresponding wavelength region of visible light; a wavelength region of infrared light with at least one infrared light detection unit coupled to the image signal processing unit is detected; and, with the signal processing unit, a first signal received from the at least one visible light detection unit by subtracting a product from said first signal is corrected, said product resulting from multiplication of a second signal received from the at least one infrared light detection unit and a predetermined coefficient factor.

TL;DR: In this paper, a time slicing technique is used to encrypt portions of a TV program on a time allocated basis, thus allowing a larger number of programs to be carried over the same bandwidth while permitting coexistence of multiple conditional access systems in a single CATV system.
Abstract: An encryption arrangement for multiple encryption of TV programs. A system (100) according to embodiments of the present invention multiple encrypts only a portion of the data required for full presentation of a TV program to permit coexistence of multiple conditional access encryption systems (118, 124) associated with multiple manufacturer's set-top boxes (36, 136) within a single system. In one embodiment, a time slicing technique is used to encrypt portions of a program on a time allocated basis. By only encrypting a portion of the program, dramatically less bandwidth is consumed than the alternate of multiple encryption of all program data, thus permitting a larger number of programs to be carried over the same bandwidth while permitting coexistence of multiple conditional access systems in a single CATV system (32).

TL;DR: In this article, an information furnishing and collection system which allows rapid furnishing of information and flexible payment of a charge and collects information regarding a reaction of a user while enhancing the security of information management is disclosed.
Abstract: An information furnishing and collection system which allows rapid furnishing of information and flexible payment of a charge and collects information regarding a reaction of a user while enhancing the security of information management is disclosed. Inputting to an information recording and reproduction apparatus and recording onto and reproduction from an information recording medium are performed under the control of a write management section. When inputting to an information inputting section or recording onto the information recording medium is to be controlled, the write management section controls the information inputting function or the information recording function using a control signal. An information signal is sent as information to the information recording medium by way of the information inputting section. When reproduction from the information recording medium is to be controlled, the write management section reads out, from among information recorded on the information recording medium, information of a type of the information itself or a reproduction condition. The information thus read out is sent as display information to and displayed on a display section.
