Abstract: This paper deals with the extraction of an instrument from music by using a deep neural network. As prior information, we only assume to know the instrument types that are present in the mixture and, using this information, we generate the training data from a database with solo instrument performances. The neural network is built up from rectified linear units where each hidden layer has the same number of nodes as the output layer. This allows a least squares initialization of the layer weights and speeds up the training of the network considerably compared to a traditional random initialization. We give results for two mixtures, each consisting of three instruments, and evaluate the extraction performance using BSS Eval for a varying number of hidden layers.

TL;DR: In this article, a method for manufacturing rotary ball display devices where a plurality of such balls are provided with a coating of a color different from the remainder of the ball, the ball members are coated with a thin coating insoluble in the settling medium into which they are introduced, so that upon settling into a low viscosity liquid, they form a uniform layer.
Abstract: A method for manufacturing rotary ball display devices wherein a plurality of such balls are provided with a coating of a color different from the remainder of the ball, the ball members are coated with a thin coating insoluble in the settling medium into which they are introduced, so that upon settling into a low viscosity liquid, they form a uniform layer. A high molecular weight hardenable coating material which is soluble in the low viscosity liquid is then poured onto the coated ball members to cover the layer. Then, the low viscosity liquid is removed and the hardenable coating material is caused to harden. The thin coating is then dissolved away from portions of the ball members to leave cavity portions thereabout into which a high resistivity liquid is introduced. The resulting ball members have a refractive index on the colored layer which is substantially the same as the refractive index of the high resistivity liquid contained in the cavities.

TL;DR: In this article, the video signal is divided into slices made up of a sequence of macroblocks, and reference data corresponding to each macroblock is distributed for storage among a number of reference data memories.
Abstract: A digital video signal that has been encoded using motion-compensated prediction, transform encoding, and variable-length coding, is decoded using parallel processing. Frames of the video signal are divided into slices made up of a sequence of macroblocks. The signal to be decoded is slice-wise divided for parallel variable-length decoding. Each variable-length-decoded macroblock is divided into its constituent blocks for parallel inverse transform processing. Resulting blocks of difference data are added in parallel to corresponding blocks of reference data. The blocks of reference data corresponding to each macroblock are read out in parallel from reference data memories on the basis of a motion vector associated with the macroblock. Reference data corresponding to each macroblock is distributed for storage among a number of reference data memories.

TL;DR: In this paper, a remote control unit for an external video apparatus such as a video camera and a VTR includes an infrared signal receiving section for receiving a video signal as a infrared signal from the video apparatus.
Abstract: A remote control unit for an external video apparatus such as a video camera and a VTR includes an infrared signal receiving section for receiving a video signal as a infrared signal from the video apparatus. A video image depending upon the video signal is displayed on a LCD display together with display information necessary for a remote control in a LCD display. An operator can easily carry out the necessary remote control operation through a key matrix, confirming the result of the operation upon reviewing the video image in the LCD display. The operator's key matrix operation is put into a microcomputer which, in turn, produces a control information for the video apparatus and transmits it to the video apparatus through an encoder and an infrared signal transmitting section. The above-mentioned display information is produced by the microcomputer and input through a character generator to the LCD display. Employing the LCD display increases the amount of information to be displayed, thereby making the remote control unit multi-functional.
