TL;DR: In this paper, a robot that discriminates human faces is hierarchically arranged in a tree structure, where each node has a number of weak classifiers and each node learns face images associated with one label.
Abstract: In an information processing apparatus, such as a robot that discriminates human faces, nodes are hierarchically arranged in a tree structure Each of the nodes has a number of weak classifiers Each terminal node learns face images associated with one label An upper node learns learning samples of all labels learned by lower nodes When a window image to be classified is input, discrimination is performed sequentially from upper nodes to lower nodes When it is determined that the window image does not correspond to a human face, discrimination by lower nodes is not performed, and discrimination proceeds to sibling nodes

TL;DR: In this article, a pressure detecting unit is used to detect the pressure of an operational body applied to a virtual key having one or more input candidates allocated selectively, and an input control unit is provided to vary a selection state of the selected candidates for every pressing operation.
Abstract: There is provided an input apparatus including: a pressure detecting unit which detects press pressure of an operational body applied to a virtual key having one or more input candidates allocated selectively; and an input control unit which varies a selection state of the one or more input candidates selectively allocated to the virtual key for every pressing operation having, as a single time of pressing operation, timing that the press pressure detected by the pressure detecting unit exceeds a predetermined selection threshold value or timing that the press pressure becomes smaller than the selection threshold value as being attenuated after exceeding the selection threshold value.

TL;DR: In this article, a home entertainment system and method for selectively recording or purchasing a show broadcast for receipt by the home entertainment systems to perform selective recording or purchase an electronic guide screen is initially produced.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a home entertainment system and method for selectively recording or purchasing a show broadcast for receipt by the home entertainment system to perform selective recording or purchasing an electronic guide screen is initially produced. Upon viewing the electronic guide screen, a viewer may select a show to be entered into timer memory. This selection prompts the viewer to select whether or not to record the show. Thereafter, the programming data associated with the show is loaded into timer memory along with information indicating whether the show is scheduled to be recorded.

TL;DR: In this paper, an apparatus and method for preparing a variable-rate coded signal, generated by compressing a digital input signal using a variable compression ratio and including a signal portion of a predetermined type, for recording on a recording medium was presented.
Abstract: An apparatus and method for preparing a variable-rate coded signal, generated by compressing a digital input signal using a variable compression ratio and including a signal portion of a predetermined type, for recording on a recording medium. In the apparatus, a circuit generates a flag signal indicating the signal portion of the a predetermined type in the variable-rate coded signal. A signal-type marker generating circuit generates a signal-type marker in response to the flag signal. Finally, a circuit multiplexes the signal-type marker with the variable-rate coded signal to produce a multiplexed signal for recording on the recording medium. The signal-type marker is located adjacent to the signal portion of the predetermined type to indicate the signal portion of the predetermined type in the multiplexed signal. Where the multiplexed signal is divided into packs of plural packets, the signal marker is included in an entry pack located immediately preceding a packet that includes the signal portion of the predetermined type. Where the multiplexed signal is divided into sectors and each sector includes a sector header, the signal marker is included as subcode in the sector header of a sector that includes the signal portion of a predetermined type.

TL;DR: In this paper, the most important high-frequency (HF) noise sources of the MOSFETs are modeled, along with challenges in noise measurement and de-embedding of future CMOS technologies.
Abstract: Compact modeling of the most important high-frequency (HF) noise sources of the MOSFET is presented in this paper, along with challenges in noise measurement and deembedding of future CMOS technologies. Several channel thermal noise models are reviewed and their ability to predict the channel noise of extremely small devices is discussed. The impact of technology scaling on noise performance of MOSFETs is also investigated by means of analytical expressions. It is shown that the gate tunneling current has a significant impact on MOSFETs noise parameters, especially at lower frequencies. Limitations of some commonly used noise models in predicting the HF noise parameters of modern MOSFETs are addressed and methods to alleviate some of the limitations are discussed
