TL;DR: In this paper, an auto-focusing apparatus which obtains an evaluation value from a contrast component of a video signal and performs focus adjustment so that the evaluation value will be maximum is presented.
Abstract: An auto-focusing apparatus which obtains an evaluation value from a contrast component of a video signal and performs focus adjustment so that the evaluation value will be maximum, comprises: measurement frame setting means for setting a first frame and a second frame on the screen to obtain the evaluation value; and evaluation value generating means for obtaining a first evaluation value and a second evaluation value from the first frame and the second frame. Focus adjustment is performed by selecting the first frame or the second frame according to changes of the first evaluation value and the second evaluation value when a focus lens is moved in a very small amount.

TL;DR: In this paper, a significant decrease in resistivity has been observed in glow-discharge-produced silicon (GDSi) containing 1019−1021 cm−3 phosphorous atoms.
Abstract: Significant decrease in resistivity has been observed in glow-discharge-produced silicon (GDSi) containing 1019−1021 cm−3 phosphorous atoms. At the highest doping level a resistivity of 0.01 ω cm at room temperature was obtained. The temperature dependence of the resistivity follows the form, ϱ = ϱ0exp(T0/T)14, over a temperature range from 80–400 K. Optical absorption, which increased with wavelength and was roughly proportional to the conductivity, was observed in the longer wavelength side of the intrinsic absorption edge and it was ascribed to mobile charge carriers. Hall effect measurements have shown that μH of phosphorus doped GDSi is about 1 cm2 V−1s−1 and has a normal (negative) sign.

TL;DR: In this article, the transmission path estimation method and the modulation method are selected in accordance with an attribute of the data to be transmitted, for example, the size of a transmission packet, and the transmission data is mapped by the selected modulation method, the transmission signal is processed by the transmitted signal processing method, and a transmission signal created by increase fast Fourier transform processing and transmitted.
Abstract: A transmitting apparatus, receiving apparatus, communication system, and a signal processing method for each apply a suitable modulation method and transmission path estimation method in accordance with the characteristics of the transmission information and capable of improving the transmission efficiency. At the transmission side, the method of estimation of the transmission path and the modulation method are selected in accordance with an attribute of the data to be transmitted, for example, the size of a packet to be transmitted, the transmission data is mapped by the selected modulation method, the signal is processed in accordance with the transmission path estimation method, and a transmission signal is created by increase fast Fourier transform processing and transmitted. At the reception side, the received signal is fast Fourier transformed, the transmission path is estimated by the transmission path estimation method selected at the transmission side, the received signal is corrected in accordance with the result, and the received data is reproduced in accordance with the modulation method. Therefore, it is possible to always adopt the optimum transmission method in accordance with the attribute of the transmission data etc. and possible to realize an improvement of a transmission efficiency and an enhancement of the quality of communication.

TL;DR: In this paper, a system providing a user interface to annotate different items in a media production system such as in a digital non-linear post production system is described, where parts of the production, such as clips, frames and layers, that have an associated annotation are provided with a visual annotation marker.
Abstract: A system providing a user interface to annotate different items in a media production system such as in a digital non-linear post production system. Parts of the production, such as clips, frames and layers, that have an associated annotation are provided with a visual annotation marker. The annotation marker can use shape, color or animation to convey source, urgency, status or other information. Annotations can be text, freehand drawing, audio, or other. Annotations can be automatically generated. Annotations can be compiled into records, searched and transferred. A state of an application program can be stored and transferred to a remote system. The remote system attempts to recreate the original state of the application program. If the remote system is unable to do so, an image of the state of the application program is obtained, instead. Assignment of control to various functions of an application program is achieved by associating a function (i.e., modifying a parameter) with a user control at a remote location.

TL;DR: In this article, a shared memory pool (SMP) and a Java layer class manager are proposed to allow Java classes to be shared among many Java virtual machines (JVMs) including a communication system allowing Java and native applications to readily interoperate.
Abstract: A computer-implemented method and system for allowing Java classes to be shared among many Java virtual machines (JVMs) including a communication system allowing Java and native applications to readily interoperate. An implementation of the JVM on an operating system platform, e.g., the Aperios AV/OS, allows a variety of applications including desktop applications, applets and Internet based applications, home networking applications, MHEG-6 applets, gaming, gaming applications and next generation audio visual applications to operate with the operating system. The present invention provides a shared memory pool (SMP) into which a JVM and store and register a particular Java class. The stored and registered Java class is then accessible by other JVMs using the SMP and a Java layer class manager that is implemented in software. The Java layer class manager requires other JVMs to access a key for the stored class in order to synchronize access to the Java class among several installed and operating JVMs of the computer system. By sharing common Java classes in this fashion, the memory resource overhead required to operate multiple JVMs on a common computer system is drastically reduced thereby allowing a multiple JVM platform to be operable on an embedded computer system. A novel communication method is also disclosed for communicating information between a JVM application and a native application using the computer system's operating system. The novel communication method also allows multiple JVM applications to communicate using the shared memory pool. These functions are incorporated into a JavaLayer that supports the full PersonalJava™ platform.
