TL;DR: In this paper, a receiver for receiving a television broadcast signal and tuning in a desired channel to receive a television signal on which a broadcast program of a predetermined genre is broadcast, and that performs the steps of entering a first genre code of a desired program, extracting a second genre code included in the broadcast signal, making a comparison between the first code and the second code for all receivable channels, and, if a program corresponding to the broadcast program is being broadcast in a plurality of channels, tuning in the channel having a past record of highest frequency of reception.
Abstract: A television receiver for receiving a television broadcast signal and tuning in a desired channel to receive a television signal on which a broadcast program of a predetermined genre is broadcast, and that performs the steps of entering a first genre code of a desired program, extracting a second genre code included in the television broadcast signal, making a comparison between the first genre code and the second genre code for all receivable channels, and, if a program corresponding to the first genre code is being broadcast in a plurality of channels, tuning in a channel having a past record of highest frequency of reception.

TL;DR: The Continuator is a system that bridges the gap between two classes of traditionally incompatible musical systems, based on a Markov model of musical styles augmented to account for musical issues such as management of rhythm, beat, harmony, and imprecision.
Abstract: We propose a system, the Continuator, that bridges the gap between two classes of traditionally incompatible musical systems: (1) interactive musical systems, limited in their ability to generate stylistically consistent material, and (2) music imitation systems, which are fundamentally not interactive. Our purpose is to allow musicians to extend their technical ability with stylistically consistent, automatically learnt material. This goal requires the ability for the system to build operational representations of musical styles in a real time context. Our approach is based on a Markov model of musical styles augmented to account for musical issues such as management of rhythm, beat, harmony, and imprecision. The resulting system is able to learn and generate music in any style, either in standalone mode, as continuations of musician’s input, or as interactive improvisation back up. Lastly, the very design of the system makes possible new modes of musical collaborative playing. We describe the architectu...

TL;DR: In this article, a mathematical line extending from the front edge of a remote controller along its longitudinal axis intersects the front plane of a display device is determined where a cursor displayed on the display device can be moved to the point where the mathematical line intersects.
Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention are directed to a method and system for controlling a display device. In one embodiment, a start position is registered which defines the first position and orientation of a remote controller relative to the position of the display device. When movement of the remote controller is detected, a second position and orientation of the remote controller is determined. A point on the display device is determined where a mathematical line extending from the front edge of the remote controller along its longitudinal axis intersects the front plane of the display device. Finally, a message is sent for causing a cursor displayed on the display device to be moved to the point where the mathematical line intersects the front plane of the display device.

TL;DR: In this article, a dielectric waveguide is used as a waveguide for transmission of signals along the length of the coaxial cable, and the center conductor is further used to communicate an electrical signal between the first and second ends.
Abstract: A communication device consistent with certain implementations has a coaxial cable having length and first and second ends. The coaxial cable further has a central conductor, a dielectric insulator surrounding the central conductor, and an electric shield conductor surrounding the dielectric insulator. The dielectric insulator serves as a dielectric waveguide having a characteristic impedance Z at an operating frequency range. A termination for electrical energy coupled into or out of the dielectric insulator at approximately the characteristic impedance Z at the operating frequency range to utilize the dielectric insulator as a waveguide for transmission of signals along the length of the coaxial cable, and wherein the center conductor is further used to communicate an electrical signal between the first and second ends. This abstract is not to be considered limiting, since other embodiments may deviate from the features described in this abstract.

TL;DR: In this paper, an editing system and method is provided that is sophisticated in features but easy to use, including a graphical user interface that intersperses video from the input devices along with control functions which the user can select using a mouse, keyboard or other input device.
Abstract: In the method and apparatus of the present invention, an editing system and method is provides that is sophisticated in features but easy to use. In one embodiment, the system includes multiple input sources, such as tape and live sources, at least one output recording device, at least one monitor, and a editing controller, such as a general purpose computer, which controls the input and output device. The controller further provides an innovative graphical user interface that intersperses video from the input devices along with control functions which the user can select using a mouse, keyboard or other input device.
