TL;DR: A battery protection circuit has a condition detecting circuit which detects a voltage across a secondary cell or cells and compares the detected voltage with a reference voltage to detect an overdischarged condition or an overcharged condition of the secondary cells or cells.
Abstract: A battery protection circuit has a condition detecting circuit which detects a voltage across a secondary cell or cells and compares the detected voltage with a reference voltage to detect an overdischarged condition or an overcharged condition of the secondary cell or cells. A control unit controls a first switching element for cutting off a discharging current and a second switching element for cutting off a charging current based on a detected condition of the secondary cell or cells. A third switch element cuts off electric power supplied to the condition detecting circuit. The third switch element is rendered nonconductive when the overdischarged condition is detected by the condition detecting circuit.

TL;DR: In this paper, a motion capture apparatus includes generating means, predicting means, projecting means, evaluating means, and estimating means, which hierarchically calculates predicted positions at a current time of the joints of the objective person, and predicts three-dimensional positions and postures of the limbs of the person.
Abstract: A motion capture apparatus includes: generating means; predicting means; projecting means; evaluating means; and estimating means. The generating means generates a kinematics model having joints connected to one another. The predicting means hierarchically calculates predicted positions at a current time of the joints of the objective person, and predicts three-dimensional positions and postures of the joints and the limbs. The projecting means projects the three-dimensional positions and postures of the joints and the limbs of the objective person on a two-dimensional image plane, the three-dimensional positions and the postures being predicted by predicting means. The evaluating means evaluates reliability about projection positions projected by the projecting means based on the observation image of the objective person. The estimating means estimates the three-dimensional positions and postures of the joints and the limbs of the objective person at the current time based on an evaluation result about the reliability.

TL;DR: In this article, a modified video signal is transmitted and then recorded on a video signal recorder, but a satisfactory video picture cannot be reproduced if that recorded modified video signals subsequently is played back.
Abstract: A method of and apparatus for modifying a video signal such that a video picture can be reproduced by a video display device in response to the modified video signal, but if the modified video signal is transmitted and then recorded on a video signal recorder, a satisfactory video picture cannot be reproduced if that recorded modified video signal subsequently is played back. A pulse whose amplitude is substantially equal to the peak white level of the video signal is inserted into respective horizontal blanking intervals of the video signal. If this modified video signal is recorded on a conventional type of video signal recorder, the presence of the inserted pulse signal is detected by an automatic gain control (AGC) detector which, in turn, controls an AGC amplifier to substantially attenuate the modified video signal which then is recorded.

TL;DR: In this paper, a method for annotating text displayed by an electronic reader application is described, which includes detecting user selection of a graphical representation of text, displaying a window based on user selection, the window including a selectable element for the user to annotate displayed text associated with the user selection.
Abstract: Methods and apparatus are provided for annotating text displayed by an electronic reader application. In one embodiment a method includes detecting user selection of a graphical representation of text displayed by a device, displaying a window based on the user selection, the window including a selectable element for the user to annotate displayed text associated with the user selection. The method may further include detecting a user selection of a selectable element to record audio data based on the window, initiating audio recording based on the user selection to record audio data, and storing recorded audio data by the device as an annotation to the user selected text.
