TL;DR: In this paper, a remote control signal for indicating reproduction of DVD 24 which is transmitted from a bi-directional remote commander is deciphered by a digital TV 21 and then converted to the data format of an IEEE-1394 serial bus 26, and then transmitted to DVD 24.
Abstract: A remote control signal for indicating reproduction of DVD 24 which is transmitted from a bi-directional remote commander, is deciphered by a digital TV 21 and then converted to the data format of an IEEE-1394 serial bus 26, and then transmitted to DVD 24. DVD 24 transmits the response to the received remote control signal to the digital TV 21, and also starts the reproduction operation. The reproduced signal is supplied to the digital TV 21 through the IEEE-1394 serial bus 26. The digital TV 21 transmits the signal corresponding to the response from DVD 24 to the bi-directional remote commander 27, and also displays the pictures corresponding to the reproduced signal and output the voices.

TL;DR: In this paper, a radiofrequency transceiver included in the telephone handset and remote controller apparatus is responsive to the actuation of the actuators, and transmits a television control signal for controlling a television receiver in response to actuations of at least a first of actuators and, if the messaging device is bidirectional, also receives messaging signals from the messaging devices.
Abstract: A telephone handset and remote controller apparatus for transmitting information such as phone numbers and addresses for storing in a messaging device. The telephone handset and remote controller apparatus includes a housing and a plurality of actuators disposed on the housing for allowing information to be input into memory in the telephone handset and remote controller apparatus and to allow control of the operation of the telephone handset and remote controller apparatus. A radiofrequency transceiver included in the telephone handset and remote controller apparatus is responsive to the actuation of the actuators, and transmits a television control signal for controlling a television receiver in response to actuation of at least a first of the actuators, transmits a first radiofrequency signal for providing a radiofrequency communications link in response to actuation of at least a second of the actuators, and transmits to the messaging device, a second radiofrequency signal encoded with the information in response to actuation of at least a third of the actuators. The radiofrequency transceiver in the telephone handset and remote controller apparatus receives radiofrequency communication signals from an associated base station, and if the messaging device is bidirectional, also receives messaging signals from the messaging device. The telephone handset and remote controller apparatus may also have a data connector so that it may be connected to a computer in order to receive downloaded information such as software updates and the like and transmit such information to the messaging device.

TL;DR: A portable information terminal includes a body casing which incorporates a function unit for transmitting and receiving information and has a groove portion with a plane bottom, and a card casing which is reversibly and slidably attached in the plane-bottom groove portion of the body casing and has an operation unit as discussed by the authors.
Abstract: A portable information terminal includes a body casing which incorporates a function unit for transmitting and receiving information and has a groove portion with a plane bottom, and a card casing which is reversibly and slidably attached in the plane-bottom groove portion of the body casing and has an operation unit. The plane-bottom groove portion of the body casing has a rectangular shape with side surfaces opposed to each other and a pair of guide grooves are formed on the opposed surfaces thereof. The card casing has a rectangular shape substantially similar to that of the plane-bottom groove portion and has a pair of pins near the end portions of the opposed side surfaces. The card casing is attached to the body casing by inserting the pair of pins into the pair of guide grooves. The body casing includes a first light emitter and a first light detector and the card casing comprises a second light emitter and a second light detector which are respectively disposed so as to be opposed to the first light emitter and the first light detector when the portable information terminal is used. The body casing includes a second operation unit on a plane portion of the plane-bottom groove portion.

TL;DR: In this article, the information-provision apparatus is providing an audio signal to the specific information reproduction apparatus, and the user enters an operation input to the SIR apparatus to switch processing to reproduce an audio content from the specific IR apparatus to another IR apparatus.
Abstract: When the information-provision apparatus is providing an audio signal to the specific information reproduction apparatus, the user enters an operation input to the specific information reproduction apparatus to switch processing to reproduce an audio content from the specific information reproduction apparatus to another information reproduction apparatus. In this case, the specific information reproduction apparatus requests the information-provision apparatus to start an operation of providing the audio content to the other information reproduction apparatus specified in the operation input as an apparatus to newly reproduce the audio content. Then, the specific information reproduction apparatus requests the information-provision apparatus to end an operation of providing the audio content to the specific information reproduction apparatus specified in the operation input as an apparatus to terminate an operation of reproducing the audio content.
