26 Jan 1988TL;DR: In this paper, a service and entertainment system for transmitting video signals, audio signals and television game software signals from a central transmitting apparatus to each of a plurality of terminal units mounted at respective passenger seats in a passenger vehicle such as aircraft or the like, or at respective seats in stadiums, a theater, and the like.
Abstract: A service and entertainment system for transmitting video signals, audio signals and television game software signals from a central transmitting apparatus to each of a plurality of terminal units mounted at respective passenger seats in a passenger vehicle such as aircraft or the like, or at respective seats in a stadium, a theater, or the like. The video signals, audio signals and television game software signals are frequency-multiplexed and then transmitted to the terminal units, so that desired ones of the frequency-multiplexed signals can be selected at each terminal unit.

21 Aug 1998TL;DR: In this article, a data collection system for use with a home AV network is presented, where a receiver device is included in a plurality of consumer electronic devices communicatively coupled via an IEEE 1394 based network.
Abstract: A data collection system for use with a home AV network. The home AV network includes a plurality of consumer electronic devices communicatively coupled via an IEEE 1394 based network. A receiver device is included in the plurality of devices. The receiver device functions by receiving a broadcast data stream for displaying or playing for the user, wherein the broadcast data stream includes an identifier tag describing the identity or content of the broadcast data stream. At least one of the plurality of consumer electronic devices includes an up-stream communications link capable of sending information up-stream from the user's home. Additionally, at least one of the consumer electronic devices includes a computer system, the computer system including a processor coupled to a memory via a bus. The memory stores software which when executed by the processor causes the computer system to implement a data collection method comprising the steps of monitoring the identifier tag included in the broadcast data stream, determining an identity of the broadcast data stream using the identifier tag, and transmitting the identity of the broadcast data stream to an external monitor via the up-stream communications link.

21 Apr 1997TL;DR: In this paper, the search results are displayed in such a way that an image corresponding to the highest match value is the largest in size, while remaining matches are represented by images which are smaller in size.
Abstract: Images representing search results are displayed on a screen of a computer system. The search results are responsive to a search in a database initiated by a user by entering a keyword or keywords via an input device. The images are displayed in such a way that an image corresponding to the highest match value is the largest in size, while remaining matches are represented by images which are smaller in size, in direct proportion to their relevance to the keyword. In addition, the relevance of an image is indicated by its proximity to the keyword displayed on the screen: the closer the displayed image to the keyword, the more relevant the match represented by that image is to that keyword. This display operation is equivalent to two simultaneous searches with boolean operators "OR" and "AND", such as "keyword1 OR keyword2" and "keyword1 AND keyword2".

27 Aug 1999TL;DR: In this paper, a system and method for designating and retrieving information over the internet is presented, where each webpage (850, 954, 1058) is accessed and individual portions (324, 326, 328, 330, 330) of the at least one webpage are designated, each of the individual portions associated with an underlying information content.
Abstract: A system and method for designating and retrieving information over the internet. At least one webpage (850, 954, 1058) is accessed and individual portions (324, 326, 328, 330) of the at least one webpage (850, 954, 1058) are designated, each of the individual portions (324, 326, 328, 330) being associated with an underlying information content. The designated individual portions (324, 326, 328, 330) of the at least one webpage (850, 954, 1058) are positioned within a single configuration display screen (570) and the format of the single configuration display screen (570) including the designated individual portions (324, 326, 328, 330) of each webpage (850, 954, 1058) are stored in a configuration file (410). The configuration file (410) and underlying information content associated with each of the designated individual portions (324, 326, 328, 330) are retrieved and positioned on an output display screen (10) in accordance with the configuration file (410).
