TL;DR: In this paper, a data record medium is adapted for recording medium information as unerasable data and copy management information, where the medium information is read from the data record.
Abstract: The data record medium is adapted for recording medium information as unerasable data and copy management information. The medium information represents the type of data record medium including at least a read-only type and a write enable type. The copy management information represents whether information data recorded on the data record medium is a copy enable state or a copy prohibition state. The medium information and the copy management information are detected from the data record medium. The information data is read from the data record. The controlling unit for substantially prohibits the reproducing unit from outputting the information data when the medium information satisfies both a first condition representing that the medium information is not at least the read-only type and a second condition representing that the copy management information is the copy prohibition state.

TL;DR: In this article, a multimedia component for reproducing/recording information in a data storage medium is controlled via a personal computer by selecting graphical representations of the multimedia components and of their control switches, the user enters instructions on the personal computer to perform various operations by the components.
Abstract: Multimedia components for reproducing/recording information in a data storage medium are controlled via a personal computer. By selecting graphical representations of the multimedia components and of their control switches, the user enters instructions on the personal computer to perform various operations by the components. The representative operations include turning the component on/off, setting its volume, adjusting its bass/treble, etc. Another operation may include finding a particular track/scene in the user library displayed on the screen and reproducing the track/scene on the corresponding multimedia component by selecting on the screen the graphical representation corresponding to the reproducing operation. An interface specification is transferred from the multimedia component (e.g. VTR, DAT player, CD player) to an intelligent A/V receiver.

TL;DR: In this paper, a facial expression recognition system that uses a face detection apparatus realizing efficient learning and high-speed detection processing based on ensemble learning when detecting an area representing a detection target and that is robust against shifts of face position included in images and capable of highly accurate expression recognition, and a learning method for the system, are provided.
Abstract: A facial expression recognition system that uses a face detection apparatus realizing efficient learning and high-speed detection processing based on ensemble learning when detecting an area representing a detection target and that is robust against shifts of face position included in images and capable of highly accurate expression recognition, and a learning method for the system, are provided. When learning data to be used by the face detection apparatus by Adaboost, processing to select high-performance weak hypotheses from all weak hypotheses, then generate new weak hypotheses from these high-performance weak hypotheses on the basis of statistical characteristics, and select one weak hypothesis having the highest discrimination performance from these weak hypotheses, is repeated to sequentially generate a weak hypothesis, and a final hypothesis is thus acquired. In detection, using an abort threshold value that has been learned in advance, whether provided data can be obviously judged as a non-face is determined every time one weak hypothesis outputs the result of discrimination. If it can be judged so, processing is aborted. A predetermined Gabor filter is selected from the detected face image by an Adaboost technique, and a support vector for only a feature quantity extracted by the selected filter is learned, thus performing expression recognition.

TL;DR: In this article, the bias voltages of each of the active element groups of a high-frequency amplifier individually between an operating voltage and an off voltage are switched between operating and off voltages, in such a way that at low power output deterioration of the gain and distortion characteristics of the amplifier is avoided.
Abstract: A radio frequency amplifier, for amplifying a radio frequency signal, comprises a plurality of active element groups, each comprising one or more active elements for amplifying a signal, with input terminals of said one or more active elements being combined to form a single input terminal and output terminals of said one or more active elements being combined to form a single output terminal and bias control means for controlling bias conditions of said plurality of active element groups arranged in such a manner that at low power output deterioration of the gain and distortion characteristics of the amplifier is avoided and sufficiently low power consumption can be achieved by switching the bias voltages of each of the active element groups of the high-frequency amplifier individually between an operating voltage and an off voltage.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors propose a method and system for providing seamless interoperability and integration between a plurality of devices in a network using a common protocol, wherein at least one of the devices is a legacy device which commmunicates with the network using the proprietary protocol.
Abstract: A method and system for providing seamless interoperability and integration between a plurality of devices in a network using a common protocol, wherein at least one of the devices is a legacy device which commmunicates with the network using a proprietary protocol. When a legacy device is coupled to the network, one of the plurality of devices on the network queries the legacy device via the proprietary protocol to determine a set of basic capabilities supported by the legacy device. The set of basic capabilities are then mapped from the proprietary protocol to a set of basic commands from the common protocol. A control module is generated for the legacy device, wherein the control module is based upon the set of basic commands. The set of basic capabilites of the legacy device are then accessed via the control module, thereby providing seamless interoperability and integration of the legacy device with the plurality of devices.
