Abstract: Wireless networks are vulnerable to identity-based attacks, including spoofing and Sybil attacks, which allows for many other forms of attacks on the networks. Although the identity of a node can be verified through cryptographic authentication, authentication is not always possible, because it requires key management and additional infrastructural overhead. In this paper, we propose a method for detecting both spoofing and Sybil attacks by using the same set of techniques. We first propose a generalized attack-detection model that utilizes the spatial correlation of received signal strength (RSS) inherited from wireless nodes. We further provide a theoretical analysis of our approach. We then derive the test statistics for detection of identity-based attacks by using the K-means algorithm. Our attack detector is robust when handling the situations of attackers that use different transmission power levels to attack the detection scheme. We further describe how we integrated our attack detector into a real-time indoor localization system, which can also localize the positions of the attackers. We show that the positions of the attackers can be localized using either area- or point-based localization algorithms with the same relative errors as in the normal case. We further evaluated our methods through experimentation in two real office buildings using both an IEEE 802.11 (WiFi) network and an IEEE 802.15.4 (ZigBee) network. Our results show that it is possible to detect wireless identity-based attacks with both a high detection rate and a low false-positive rate, thereby providing strong evidence of the effectiveness of the attack detector utilizing the spatial correlation of RSS and the attack localizer.

Abstract: Constrained optimization methods have received considerable attention as a means to derive blind multiuser receivers with low complexity. The receiver's output variance is minimized subject to appropriate constraints which depend on the multipath structure of the signal of interest. When multipath is present, the constraint equations can be written in parametric form, and the constraint parameters jointly optimized with the linear receiver's parameters. We develop adaptive solutions for this joint, constrained optimization problem. Both stochastic gradient and recursive least-square-type algorithms are developed. The performance of the proposed methods is compared with other blind and trained methods and turns out to be close to the trained minimum mean-square-error receiver.

Abstract: Unlearning, which first appeared almost 30 years ago as a subprocess of the organizational learning process, has received only limited attention in the literature. Rather than building on empirical research, the existing scholarship is largely anecdotal, aimed at reviewing the literature and generating new insights. Further, unlearning studies tend to analyze the organizational level and neglect smaller units such as work groups and teams. To address this gap in the understanding of unlearning, this article empirically investigates unlearning in work groups in general and new product development (NPD) teams in particular. This study, based on the literature of organizational memory and change, operationalized team unlearning as changes in beliefs and routines during team-based projects and then discussed the importance of unlearning behavior in NPD teams. Specifically it was argued that unlearning guards beliefs and routines against rigidity to cope with environmental turbulence. This is of particular note when rigid product development procedures and group beliefs inhibit the reception and evaluation of new market and technology information and reduce the value of perceived new information. To test the antecedents and consequences of the team unlearning model, 319 NPD teams were investigated. Using structural equation modeling, it was found that (1) team crisis and anxiety have a direct impact on team unlearning; (2) environmental turbulence also has a direct impact on both team crisis and anxiety and team unlearning; and (3) after team beliefs and project routines have changed, implementing new knowledge or information positively affects new product success. Specifically, the findings revealed that changes in team members’ collective beliefs in accordance with environmental changes and the in-process planning or adjustment of project work activities and procedures as the projects evolve enable teams to develop and launch new products successfully. Also, results indicated that team crisis and anxiety in NPD projects assist team members in revising their previous beliefs and routines when project teams are performing in turbulent environments. This article suggests that managers can enhance team unlearning by (1) creating a sense of urgency by introducing an artificial crisis; and (2) avoiding the groupthink phenomena by bringing in an outsider to challenge existing policies and procedures, and training the team on lateral thinking. In addition, managers can plan project activities in a flexible manner that allows changes as the project evolves to facilitate team unlearning. However, managers should also be cautious when promoting team unlearning. Without careful and considerable evaluation, change in beliefs and routines can cause information/knowledge loss.

Abstract: In the era of rapid development of artificial intelligence, the integration of multimedia and human-artificial intelligence has become an important research hotspot. Especially in the multimedia environment, effective remote visual monitoring has become the exploration direction of many scholars. The use of traditional correlation filtering (CF) algorithm for real-time monitoring in the context of multimedia is a practical strategy. However, most existing filtering-based visual monitoring algorithms still have the problem of insufficient robustness and effectiveness. Therefore, by considering the strategy of updating human memory, this paper proposes a multi-layer template update mechanism to achieve effective monitoring in a multimedia environment. In this strategy, the weighted template of the high-confidence matching memory is used as the confidence memory, and the unweighted template of the low-confidence matching memory is used as the cognitive memory. Through the alternate use of confidence memory, matching memory, and cognitive memory, it is ensured that the target will not be lost during the monitoring process. Experimental results show that this strategy does not affect the speed (still real-time) and improves the robustness in the multimedia background.

Abstract: Photosensitizer, protoporphyrin IX (PpIX), was conjugated with Au nanoparticles (Au NPs) of 19, 66, and 106 nm diameter to study the size-dependent enhancement of reactive oxygen species (ROS) formation enabled by Au NPs. The ROS enhancement ratio is determined to be 1:2.56:4.72 in order of increasing Au NP size, in general agreement with theoretically calculated field enhancement to the fourth power. The convergence of the experimental and simulated results suggests that Au NP-enhanced and size-dependent ROS formation can be attributed directly to the localized electromagnetic field as a result of surface plasmonic resonance of Au NPs under light irradiation. In vitro study on the ROS formation enabled by PpIX-conjugated Au NPs in human breast cancer cells (MDA-MB-231) revealed the similar size-dependent enhancement of intracellular ROS formation, while the enhancement greatly depended on cellular uptake of Au NPs. Cellular photodynamic therapy revealed that cell destruction significantly increased in the presence of Au NPs. Compared to the untreated control (0% destruction), 22.6% cell destruction was seen in the PpIX alone group and more than 50% cell destruction was obtained for all PpIX-conjugated Au NPs. The 66 nm Au NPs yielded the highest cell destruction, consistent with the highest cellular uptake and highest ROS formation. Clearly, the complex cellular environment, size-dependent cellular uptake of Au NPs, and ROS generations are vital contributors to the overall cellular PDT efficacy.
