Abstract: A series of water-scavernger beetles was collected by the Chinese and Soviet Scien-tists in Southwest China in the years 1955--1957 This series comprises 26 species and1 variety, of which 4 species are new to science; they are characterized as followsCoelostoma sulcata, sp n (fig 1) Size, 5--6 mm long, 29--33 mm wide Oval Pitch black Dorsal surface minutely and densely punctulated Head with clypeus slightly emar-ginate anteriorly Labrum transverse, with long hairs, moderately deeply emarginateanteriorly Second segments of maxillary palpi longest and biggest, ultimate seg-ments slightly shorter but longer than third segments Mentum rectangular, anteriorarea depressed, posterior and lateral areas minutely punctulated Pronotum with mode-rately deeply emarginated anterior margin, middle portion of which slightly archedProsternum slightly arched in the middle Mesosternum with erect lamella in the mid-dle Poststernum coarse, pubescent, middle area glabrous, somewhat elevated Basal tarsalsegments with ventral pubescence which is more prominent in the anterior tarsi Abdomenwith 5 pubescent and coarse sterna Male genitalia with lateral lobes slightly curveddistally; median lobe tongue-like, shorter than lateral lobes but bigger, dorsal surfacegrooved Holotype, 1 from Sisongpanna, Yunnan Province, March 17, 1957, collected byHung Kwang-chi Allotype, 1 with same locality and date Paratypes, 1 specimenwith the same locality, 4 specimens from Chingtung, Yunnan province This species resembles C vagum Orchym, but is separable by the less elevated cly-peus, the sparser pubescence on the anterior tarsi and the absence of short spinose processin the middle of the anterior margin The male genitalia of the present species is quitedifferent from its allied speciesAnacaena lancifera, sp n (fig 2) Size, 24--27 mm long, 15--16 mm wide Oval Reddish brown to dark brown Head with deeper color and indistinctly punctulated Clypeus with anterior marginslightly emarginate Antennae 9-segmented Ultimate segments of maxillary palpi aboutthree times longer than the penultimate segments Mentum without apparent punctureswith anterior area depressed Pronotum very transverse, subequal to the head in length, punctuation like that on the head, but sparser and smaller; anterior margin with me-dian section slightly arched; posterior margin arched Elytra with larger more distinctpunctures and those in the lateral area more prominent and still larger Mesosternumof thorax with moderately large triangular spine-like outgrowth which is bigger than the mid-dle coxae Metasternum of thorax with triangular depressed median area, lateral areas moderately thickly pubescent Femora moderately densely pubescent with glabrous dis-tal extremities Second segments of posterior tarsi apparently longer than the totallength of 3rd and 4th segments together Lateral lobes of male genitalia with distalends rounded and broad, lobe-like; median lobe short, in the shape of a spear-head Holotype, 1 from Omeishan, Szechuan Province, June 23, 1955, collected byYang Sing-chi Allotype, 1 with same locality, June 24, 1955, collected by KoChung-lin Paratypes, 7 specimens with same locality The present species is separable from its allied species A yunnanensis Orchym bythe absence of any outgrowth on the mentum anteriorly, the presence of dense pubescenceon the posterior femora, the punctures on the elytra much larger than those on the headand the presence of larger punctures in the lateral areas of elytraAnacaena bushiki sp n Size, 28 mm long, 17 mm wide Oval Reddish brown The present species resembles A lancifera, sp n, but separable from it by followingcharacters Punctures on the head more distinct Anterior margin of clypeus morestraight Ultimate segments of maxillary palpi longer and larger Anterior margin ofpronotum more straight, while posterior margin less arched Mesosternum with a longi-tudinal carina along the middle, posterior surface of which with prominent hairs Elytrawith visible longitudinal punctural series
