TL;DR: A systematic literature review of empirical studies on ML model published in the last two decades finds that eight types of ML techniques have been employed in SDEE models, and overall speaking, the estimation accuracy of these ML models is close to the acceptable level and is better than that of non-ML models.
Abstract: Context: Software development effort estimation (SDEE) is the process of predicting the effort required to develop a software system. In order to improve estimation accuracy, many researchers have proposed machine learning (ML) based SDEE models (ML models) since 1990s. However, there has been no attempt to analyze the empirical evidence on ML models in a systematic way. Objective: This research aims to systematically analyze ML models from four aspects: type of ML technique, estimation accuracy, model comparison, and estimation context. Method: We performed a systematic literature review of empirical studies on ML model published in the last two decades (1991-2010). Results: We have identified 84 primary studies relevant to the objective of this research. After investigating these studies, we found that eight types of ML techniques have been employed in SDEE models. Overall speaking, the estimation accuracy of these ML models is close to the acceptable level and is better than that of non-ML models. Furthermore, different ML models have different strengths and weaknesses and thus favor different estimation contexts. Conclusion: ML models are promising in the field of SDEE. However, the application of ML models in industry is still limited, so that more effort and incentives are needed to facilitate the application of ML models. To this end, based on the findings of this review, we provide recommendations for researchers as well as guidelines for practitioners.

TL;DR: The high specific capacitance and charge-discharge rates offered by such MnO(2)/Mn/Mn O(2) sandwich-like nanotube arrays make them promising candidates for supercapacitor electrodes, combining high-energy densities with high levels of power delivery.
Abstract: We demonstrate the design and fabrication of novel nanoarchitectures of MnO2/Mn/MnO2 sandwich-like nanotube arrays for supercapacitors. The crystalline metal Mn layers in the MnO2/Mn/MnO2 sandwich-like nanotubes uniquely serve as highly conductive cores to support the redox active two-double MnO2 shells with a highly electrolytic accessible surface area and provide reliable electrical connections to MnO2 shells. The maximum specific capacitances of 937 F/g at a scan rate of 5 mV/s by cyclic voltammetry (CV) and 955 F/g at a current density of 1.5 A/g by chronopotentiometry were achieved for the MnO2/Mn/MnO2 sandwich-like nanotube arrays in solution of 1.0 M Na2SO4. The hybrid MnO2/Mn/MnO2 sandwich-like nanotube arrays exhibited an excellent rate capability with a high specific energy of 45 Wh/kg and specific power of 23 kW/kg and excellent long-term cycling stability (less 5% loss of the maximum specific capacitance after 3000 cycles). The high specific capacitance and charge–discharge rates offered by su...

TL;DR: In this article, a fully programmable two-qubit quantum processor is presented, which enables universal quantum information processing in optics, using large-scale silicon photonic circuits to implement an extension of the linear combination of quantum operators scheme.
Abstract: Photonics is a promising platform for implementing universal quantum information processing. Its main challenges include precise control of massive circuits of linear optical components and effective implementation of entangling operations on photons. By using large-scale silicon photonic circuits to implement an extension of the linear combination of quantum operators scheme, we realize a fully programmable two-qubit quantum processor, enabling universal two-qubit quantum information processing in optics. The quantum processor is fabricated with mature CMOS-compatible processing and comprises more than 200 photonic components. We programmed the device to implement 98 different two-qubit unitary operations (with an average quantum process fidelity of 93.2 ± 4.5%), a two-qubit quantum approximate optimization algorithm, and efficient simulation of Szegedy directed quantum walks. This fosters further use of the linear-combination architecture with silicon photonics for future photonic quantum processors.

TL;DR: In this paper, the establishment of a stable Wolbachia infection in an important malaria vector, Anopheles stephensi, was reported, and the infection exhibited both perfect maternal transmission and the ability to induce high levels of cytoplasmic incompatibility.
Abstract: Wolbachia is a maternally transmitted symbiotic bacterium of insects that has been proposed as a potential agent for the control of insect-transmitted diseases. One of the major limitations preventing the development of Wolbachia for malaria control has been the inability to establish inherited infections of Wolbachia in anopheline mosquitoes. Here, we report the establishment of a stable Wolbachia infection in an important malaria vector, Anopheles stephensi. In A. stephensi, Wolbachia strain wAlbB displays both perfect maternal transmission and the ability to induce high levels of cytoplasmic incompatibility. Seeding of naturally uninfected A. stephensi populations with infected females repeatedly resulted in Wolbachia invasion of laboratory mosquito populations. Furthermore, wAlbB conferred resistance in the mosquito to the human malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum.
