Abstract: We present results on searches for point-like sources of neutrinos using four years of IceCube data, including the first year of data from the completed 86 string detector The total livetime of the combined data set is 1373 days For an E-2 spectrum, the observed 90% C L flux upper limits are similar to 10(-12) TeV-1 cm(-2) s(-1) for energies between 1 TeV and 1 PeV in the northern sky and similar to 10(-11) TeV-1 cm(-2) s(-1) for energies between 100 TeV and 100 PeV in the southern sky This represents a 40% improvement compared to previous publications, resulting from both the additional year of data and the introduction of improved reconstructions In addition, we present the first results from an all-sky search for extended sources of neutrinos We update the results of searches for neutrino emission from stacked catalogs of sources and test five new catalogs; two of Galactic supernova remnants and three of active galactic nuclei In all cases, the data are compatible with the background-only hypothesis, and upper limits on the flux of muon neutrinos are reported for the sources considered

Abstract: The anisotropy of the azimuthal distributions of charged particles produced in √s_(NN)=2.76 TeV PbPb collisions is studied with the CMS experiment at the LHC. The elliptic anisotropy parameter, v_2, defined as the second coefficient in a Fourier expansion of the particle invariant yields, is extracted using the event-plane method, two- and four-particle cumulants, and Lee-Yang zeros. The anisotropy is presented as a function of transverse momentum (p_T), pseudorapidity (η) over a broad kinematic range, 0.3

Abstract: A search for a heavy neutral lepton N of Majorana nature decaying into a W boson and a charged lepton is performed using the CMS detector at the LHC. The targeted signature consists of three prompt charged leptons in any flavor combination of electrons and muons. The data were collected in proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, with an integrated luminosity of 35.9 fb^(−1). The search is performed in the N mass range between 1 GeV and 1.2 TeV. The data are found to be consistent with the expected standard model background. Upper limits are set on the values of |V_(eN)|^2and |V_(μN)|^2, where V_(lN) is the matrix element describing the mixing of N with the standard model neutrino of flavor l. These are the first direct limits for N masses above 500 GeV and the first limits obtained at a hadron collider for N masses below 40 GeV.

Abstract: We survey the electronic structure and magnetic properties of two-dimensional (2D) $M\mathrm{P}{X}_{3}$ ($M=\text{V},\text{Cr},\text{Mn},\text{Fe},\text{Co},\text{Ni},\text{Cu},\text{Zn}$, and $X=\text{S},\text{Se},\text{Te}$) transition-metal chalcogenophosphates to shed light on their potential role as single-layer van der Waals materials that possess magnetic order. Our ab initio calculations predict that most of these single-layer materials are antiferromagnetic semiconductors. The band gaps of the antiferromagnetic states decrease as the atomic number of the chalcogen atom increases (from S to Se to Te), leading in some cases to half-metallic ferromagnetic states or to nonmagnetic metallic states. We find that the competition between antiferromagnetic and ferromagnetic states can be substantially influenced by gating and by strain engineering. The sensitive interdependence we find between magnetic, structural, and electronic properties establishes the potential of this 2D materials class for applications in spintronics.
