Abstract: The BAB-type triblock copolymers composed of a central poly(ethyelene oxide) (PEO, M nPEO = 1000) block and two poly[(D,L-lactic acid)-co-(glycolic acid)] end blocks with molecular weights between 900 and 1 600 exhibited an intersting phase transition behavior. The copolymer aqueous solution can form micelles with PLGA loops in the core and a PEO shell and groups of micelles because of bridging between micelles caused by the PLGA blocks with raising temperature. A possible micellar gelation mechanism was suggested.

Abstract: In this retrospective study, we investigated whether the 18F-FDG uptake pattern and CT findings improved the accuracy over the standardized uptake value (SUV) for differentiating benign from malignant focal thyroid lesions incidentally found on 18F-FDG PET/CT. We also defined the prevalence of these lesions and their risk for cancer. Methods:18F-FDG PET/CT was performed on 1,763 subjects without a previous history of thyroid cancer from May 2003 to June 2004. Two nuclear medicine physicians and 1 radiologist interpreted PET/CT images, concentrating on the presence of focal thyroid lesions, the maximum SUV of the thyroid lesion, the pattern of background thyroid 18F-FDG uptake, and the CT attenuation pattern of the thyroid lesion. Results: The prevalence of focal thyroid lesions on PET/CT was 4.0% (70/1,763). Diagnostic confirmation was done on 44 subjects by ultrasonography (US)-guided fine-needle aspiration (n = 29) or US with clinical follow-up (n = 15). Among 49 focal thyroid lesions in these 44 subjects, 18 focal thyroid lesions of 17 subjects were histologically proven to be malignant (papillary cancer in 16, metastasis from esophageal cancer in 1, non–Hodgkin9s lymphoma in 1). Therefore, the cancer risk of focal thyroid lesions was 36.7% on a lesion-by-lesion basis or 38.6% on a subject-by-subject basis. Abstract: Graphite oxide was synthesized using various oxidation times and characterized by its physical and chemical properties. The degree of oxidation of the graphite oxide was systematically controlled via oxidation time up to 24h. Three phases of interlayer distances were identified by x-ray diffraction: pristine graphite (3.4A), intermediate (4A) and fully expanded graphite oxide (6A) phases. These phases were distinguished by an atomic ratio of O/C, which occurred from the different compositions of epoxide, carboxyl and hydroxyl groups. The band gap of the graphite oxides was also tuned via the oxidation time, resulting in direct band gap engineering from 1.7 to 2.4eV and strong correlation with the atomic ratio of O/C. Abstract: A flexible, transparent acoustic actuator and nanogenerator based on graphene/P(VDF-TrFE)/graphene multilayer film is demonstrated. P(VDF-TrFE) is used as an effective doping layer for graphene and contributes significantly to decreasing the sheet resistance of graphene to 188 ohm/sq. The potentiality of graphene/P(VDF-TrFE)/graphene multilayer film is realized in fabricating transparent, flexible acoustic devices and nanogenerators to represent its functionality. The acoustic actuator shows good performance and sensitivity over a broad range of frequency. The output voltage and the current density of the nanogenerator are estimated to be ∼3 V and ∼0.37 μAcm–2, respectively, upon the application of pressure. These values are comparable to those reported earlier for ZnO- and PZT-based nanogenerators. Finally, the possibility of rollable devices based on graphene/P(VDF-TrFE)/graphene structure is also demonstrated under a dynamic mechanical loading condition.
